Re: Voice Dream Scanner beta.

2019-04-04 Thread Richard Turner

It was released to the app store last weekend.
The beta had been public and the instructions were sent out a couple weeks ago.
Unless he decides to do another beta round, at this point you will need to buy
the app if you want to check it out.
You won't be sorry. For $5.99 it is better than KNFB Reader.

RE: Voice Dream Scanner beta

I agree Richard, this is a great product even in Beta. I would certainly think
it should be more than the $5.00. I think the author have to have enough
incentive in order to continue to develop such great applications.

it already blows Seeing AI away with the fact that you can do multipage
documents in a batch and save as one file with formatting in tact. And it is
all done right on the phone!

This is also where it blows KNFB Reader away to because still, for $99.99, they
cannot retain formatting.

I'd gladly pay quite a bit more for an app this easy to use and especially with
the integration with Voice Dream Reader.

But, please, try it out and give him the feedback you have on anything and
everything about the app.

low price and sufficiently different features or user interface. People will
need to be able to justify getting it either instead of or, more likely, in

It doesn't say below, but you can use the up volume button to capture the image.

Saving as PDF is not only fully accessible, but it retains any images in the

Is there a way to share or export a scan from the Scanner app? I cannot find

Thanks

hi Sandy,
Of course′
The beta; as they always say, is good for 90 days; but I'll be surprised if it

It doesn't have the name; just the code, but if you have testflight installed,

For those who have not heard, Winston Chen, the developer of Voice Dream
Reader, is developing an OCR app called Scanner. It is in public beta, so
anyone can test it and give him feedback.
If you also install the Voice Dream Reader beta, you will be able to choose
Scanner from the Add dialog in VDR.

Here is the latest info from Testflight which you have to have installed in
order to use the betas but it is free in the app store.
I've tested the app quite a bit in the two days I've known about it and it
blows everything else out of the water.
There is one very annoying thing in beta 3 that I've asked him to disable, but
if Edge Detection is on, there is a constant tone playing that is truly
annoying.
It doesn't say below, but you can use the up volume button to capture the image.
Saving as PDF is not only fully accessible, but it retains any images in the
document.
At this point, unless I can convince him to charge more, he is thinking of
charging $5.00 for the app.
I think it is worth much more.
Here is the info from TestFlight.

 Subject: Voice Dream Scanner beta

For those who have not heard, Winston Chen, the developer of Voice Dream
Reader, is developing an OCR app called Scanner. It is in public beta, so
anyone can test it and give him feedback.
If you also install the Voice Dream Reader beta, you will be able to
choose Scanner from the Add dialog in VDR.

Here is the latest info from Testflight which you have to have installed
in order to use the betas but it is free in the app store.
I've tested the app quite a bit in the two days I've known about it and it
blows everything else out of the water.
There is one very annoying thing in beta 3 that I've asked him to disable,
but if Edge Detection is on, there is a constant tone playing that is
 truly annoying.
It doesn't say below, but you can use the up volume button to capture the
 image.
Saving as PDF is not only fully accessible, but it retains any images in
 the document.
At this point, unless I can convince him to charge more, he is thinking of
 charging $5.00 for the app.
I think it is worth much more.
Here is the info from TestFlight.

 From Testflight
 Here's the high level stuff:

 - State-of-the-art A.I. for OCR and text recognition: Fast and accurate,
even in poor lighting conditions. Works entirely on device: No need for
internet and your data stays private.

 - Export scans as plain text or PDF with embedded text to another app, or
save them on your local device, iCloud, Dropbox, or Google Drive.

 - Works with Voice Dream Reader. You need to download the latest beta
version of Voice Dream Reader, version 4.8.0. If you haven't signed up for
beta, you can do it here: https://testflight.apple.com/join/5amQM57U.
After downloading the latest Reader Beta, you will be able access the
scanner directly from Reader and add scanned documents to your Reader
 library.

 Additional Features:

 - Automatic detection of document edges for stretching and cropping
 - Automatic detection of document orientation
 - Automatic image enhancement
 - Batch mode for scanning multiple pages quickly
 - Spoken words are highlighted in the text or the image
 - Select text-to-speech voice and change speed
 - Uses premium voices purchased in Voice Dream Reader

 Beta 3:
 - Auto Scan (if an page is detected and phone is held steady for 2 seconds)
 - Audible tone for page detection. VoiceOver only. Should there be a way
 to disable this?
 - Capture Button is now the entire video preview window
 - No longer read content again after enhancing image
 - Minor bug fixes

 Beta 2:
 - Improved orientation detection
 - Added option to automatic read text after capture
 - Fix crashes

 Beta 1:
This new app let you scan paper documents with the camera and recognize
text, listen using built-in text-to-speech, and save and export.

Limitations: Only languages using Latin alphabets are supported. For
example, Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Russian, and Arabic are not supported.

As with all Voice Dream beta tests, we're interested in every kind of
feedback: nothing is too small or too insignificant. We want nothing less
 than perfection.

Re: Voice Dream Scanner beta

2019-03-14 Thread 'Wren LANGLEY' via VIPhone
hi Richard,
When I first read your messages, somehow I missed the one that had the link
with the scanner for the Scanner app.

I found it, downloaded it, and all is well.

Thank you for the help. We were very nice person, and always willing to help. I
want you to know that I appreciate it.

I did go back to the App Store and it still told me the app was not available.
I live in the United States and independence Missouri.
I am very sorry that dictation is not working well for me anymore. Siri doesn’t
seem to work well either, and my only reason for saying that is that I want to
let you know that it just doesn’t work. So I’m sorry for the dictation errors.

Hello Richard, so here is what I did and if I did something incorrect maybe you
could let me know. I clicked on the link and got the voice dream beta, that
worked perfectly. Then I went into Voice Dream and clicked on add and clicked
to turn on the scanner, it sent me to the App Store, and when I tried to
download that Scanner app, it said it wasn’t available in my country. Do you
know if this is not available in the US? Thanks

Well, for my money, it blows knfbe away. And I paid too much for that app,

I do not recall where you live, but in the US it is readily available; but not

Re: Voice Dream Scanner beta

2019-03-14 Thread Richard Turner

it already blows Seeing AI away with the fact that you can do multipage
documents in a batch and save as one file with formatting in tact. And it is
all done right on the phone!

- Added option to automatic read text after capture

- Fix crashes

Beta 1:

This new app let you scan paper documents with the camera and recognize text,
listen using built-in text-to-speech, and save and export.

Limitations: Only languages using Latin alphabets are supported. For example,
Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Russian, and Arabic are not supported.

As with all Voice Dream beta tests, we're interested in every kind of feedback:
nothing is too small or too insignificant. We want nothing less than perfection.

Re: Voice Dream Scanner beta

2019-03-14 Thread Michael Feir
This seems quite promising as long as he sticks to a low price. I fuly
agree that the effort of developing this new oCr option is worth more.
however, he's up against some well established stiff accessible competition
from Seeing A I, Prizmo Go and of course, KNFb Reader. The only way to get
penetration is with a low price and sufficiently different features or user
interface. People will need to be able to justify getting it either instead
of or, more likely, in adition to one or more OCR apps already owned. Got
to admire the man's pluck and courage. Voice Dream Reader is still a highly
valued app on my iPHONE.
