I have found Blindsquare best so far.

Especially i would be interested about accessible application that will
use OpenStreetMap data or application that will allow user to import
 POI data in some format.

Another nice feature would be justo to point phone to certain direction
and it will tell details on that direction: crossings, addresses or POIs
 according user preferences.

 Any tips welcome.

I'd suggest taking a look at MapQuest. I'm not sure it does what you
want, but it is accessible, and it is free, so you can check it out.

RE: Wanted: good gps application

2012-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ari,

You pretty much tested all he best GPS apps, some people on here use Motion
X GPS Drive, but I'm not sure how well they cover Finland and in any case,
it doesn't do anything Navigon can't do and while it's cheaper to buy it,
it needs data as opposed to having the maps on the phone and for voice
guidance there is an annual fee.

I don't think what you describe exists at this point, but you definitely
want to watch the list as there are now 3 new apps that have been mentioned
before, but which are not yet out. One is an app called "BreadCrums" and I
understand it will work similarly to MyWay Classic. It's from the same
developer who made LookTel Money Reader and LookTel Recognizer, not sure if
it will offer a lot of other features compared to MyWay Classic. The next
app was just mentioned yesterday and it's apparently a new Maps/GPS app from
Nokia, one of your country's well-known companies. So t is called "Here" as
far as I know and should be out in a few weeks. This is not a blind-specific
app so nobody really knows at this point how accessible it will be. Lastly,
Sendero has received funding from Seeing-Eye to develop a full-fletched
iPhone GPS app for the blind in addition to their Sendero LookAround app
which is useful, but very limited in what it tells you. This will definitely
also be the most expensive of these apps and should hopefully give the user
a similar set of features as was available in MobileGeo. I have high hopes
for this app as MobileGeo was a very good app, but it suffered somewhat from
the instability of the Windows Mobile platform.

Good luck,
Sieghard
