Re: best perfectly working I O S with Iphone3gs

2012-08-02 Thread Scott Davert
1. Depends on what you want. iOS 5 has a lot of changes, including
VoiceOver support for more languages, you can Google to find the
answer as to what the specific changes are.
2. No. How can you know what software is loaded on something without
turning it on? Even if you've purchased it recently, there is no
garantee of what iOS version the phone is running , as the phone has
been around for quite some time.

I'm not Scott.
You can find that information yourself.
Go to Settings, General, About.
As you read through that screen you will find not only the version of the IOS
but also the serial number, how much memory you have, how much is used for
music, etc.

Re: best perfectly working I O S with Iphone3gs

2012-08-02 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

iOs 5X has some nice features, although I found 4.3.3 more responsive.
It doesn't really matter though; if for example the phone comes with
5.1.1, you won't be able to downgrade to 4 anyway. Have you
considdered waiting a month or 2 until a new device comes out and then
trying to get something a bit faster than the 3GS?

Cheers,
Ben.

Re: best perfectly working I O S with Iphone3gs

2012-08-02 Thread Scott Davert
It could be possible, but good luck getting it without taking the
phone out of the box. Why won't you just do that? What's the point of
leaving the phone in the box? I'm a bit confused as to why you'd ask
all sorts of questions, but never open it to simply try it out. That
may answer more questions than any of us could.

I'm not Scott.
You can find that information yourself.
Go to Settings, General, About.
As you read through that screen you will find not only the version of
the
IOS but also the serial number, how much memory you have, how much is
used
for music, etc.

Re: best perfectly working I O S with Iphone3gs

2012-08-02 Thread Esther
Hello Bhavesh,

I don't know whether you have a choice of the operating system that is loaded
on the device when you purchase it. Perhaps that is an option if you are
purchasing from an individual on eBay, who may or may not have upgraded the
operating system of his iPhone, but if the iPhone 3GS is purchased from local
carriers or Apple or its designated vendors, it comes with iOS 5 loaded.

You also ask if you can run all the program that an iPhone 4S could run,
discounting those that are based on Siri. A more relevant question in the
context of your inquiry about operating system might be, what programs will you
not be able to run because they require iOS 5, even though they have support
for the iPhone 3GS? And will you be able to run new apps that are released on
that operating system?

I assume this discussion is between iOS version 4.3 and iOS 5, because a large
number of apps that you might want to use will not run on versions below iOS
4.2, and you would also lose the the possibility of using a paired BlueTooth
keyboard to navigate controls with VoiceOver for any iOS version below 4.2. iOS
5 added a number of language and voice options, along with more navigation
options. (I don't remember now whether the ability to label buttons came in
iOS 5 or 4.3. Additional language support came in iOS 5, and a lot of web
navigation tools for quickly going to and finding items on web pages.) Some
apps, like the OCR app Say Text, got a lot faster with iOS 5 (i.e., my
experience on the iPhone 4 is that it took an extremely long time to work for
the same version of the app on earlier operating systems).

You're in a different position from someone who had the iPhone 3GS, purchased a
number of apps, and chose not to upgrade from iOS 4.3 because he or she liked
the responsiveness and wants to keep it that way, because you won't be getting
apps until you get the phone. Developers don't support older platforms
indefinitely, and some apps may later get updated so that they need the newer
operating system. So you need to figure that into your planning and selection,
too.

A few of the apps that have had a lot of recent discussion that require iOS 5
are Fleksy (a way of fast typing input based on predictive typing) and Ariadne
GPS. Fleksy might not be essential, but I would personally not like to do
without Ariadne GPS, which lets me explore the region around my locations and
let me know when I am near certain favorites. This app works internationally,
but relies on Open Street maps (i.e., it does not really help in you are
somewhere without streets, like in the middle of a large park or by hiking
trails). I think it is also modestly priced for what it does (about $5.99).

It may be that you do not need these functions, since they are not in your list
of primary uses for the iPhone. The problem is, that many of us find ourselves
using the iPhone for things we did not think were possible when we first bought
them. Of course, you could always decide to update your operating system after
using your phone for a while, but that might be a more involved process.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi,
It works fine. You will feel the difference as compared to an iPhone4 or 4S
when running something like Navigon but don't pass up the 3GS because of
that.

2012-08-02 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

No, all John is saying is that it will be slower than a newer device.
It's an ok phone still, but personally I'd wait to see if prices on
the 4 or 4s come down enough for you to afford them when the new
iPhone comes out, potentially in the next couple of months.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hi,
Oh you sure can use GPS, Navigon's huge though and runs a bit more slowly.
Overall I was very happy with the way the 3GS handled everything I threw at

Agree with Richard. Lots of this stuff is subjective though; some apps
run noticeabley slower on the 3GS but are still usefull. Just remember
that you're buying a 3 year old device.

RE: best perfectly working I O S with Iphone3gs

2012-08-03 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi,
No the program is just a bit sluggish at times when flicking from item to
item but the GPS updates fine.
Other GPS programs have a smaller footprint and it is only with some of the
really large programs where you may see this.
On the other hand, if you keep the app switcher cleaned out before running
Navigon on the 3GS you will be fine.

Hi,
Oh you sure can use GPS, Navigon's huge though and runs a bit more slowly.
Overall I was very happy with the way the 3GS handled everything I threw at
it.

2012-08-03 Thread Scott Davert
The other thing to consider is disabling the premium TTS. This will
also use less resources, though the voice may be less clear. The other
thing I think you may start to run in to a few months down the road if
you run iOS 4, is that some developers have already dropped support
for iOS 3, so it would seem logical that they may drop 4 at some
point. Simply, the more you pay, the longer your device will last and
will be able to handle things as they develop. At this time, most
things will run slower on the 3GS, but will work.

2012-08-03 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, when I had my 3GS it worked fine with iOS 5.0. I agree however that
4.3.3 iOS was the best one for the 3GS from what I feel anyway. Take my
opinion with a grain of salt.

It doesn't really matter though; if for example the phone comes with
5.1.1, you won't be able to downgrade to 4 anyway. Have you
considdered waiting a month or 2 until a new device comes out and then
trying to get something a bit faster than the 3GS?

Cheers,

I'm not Scott.
You can find that information yourself.
Go to Settings, General, About.
As you read through that screen you will find not only the version of
the
IOS but also the serial number, how much memory you have, how much is
used
for music, etc.

Hi Scott,

I called apple, and they said, that if i tell them the sirial number

is that possible?
