Hi You can restore a phone when it is in DFU mode with itunes as that is exactly how I do it. Hi Christina, DFU mode stands for Device Firmware Update mode. If an iPhone is in DFU mode it is recognized by iTunes, but it does not load iOS. This is mostly used by people who jailbreak or who want to upgrade or downgrade manually. Below are the steps for putting an iDevice into DFU mode: 1. Plug your device into your computer with a USB cable. 2. Turn off the device. 3. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds. 4. press the Home button for 10 seconds without letting go of the power button. 5. Release the Power button but keep holding the Home button for another 15 seconds. If the process was successful iTunes will alert you by saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode. it's most likely not something you will ever have to worry about. Hi Kliphton, As Scott pointed out, iTunes should be able to do this, but if you want to do it manually, go here: http://IPSWDownloader.com Keep in mind that in addition to knowing that your iPhone is a 5S, you also will need to know which model of 5S it is, e.g. A1453, A1457, A1530, A1533. If you don't know you will have to get a sighted person to check on the back of your phone where this model number can be found. I believe that even though there are multiple 5S models, there are only 2 IPSW downloads which cover these models. Hi again, Kliphton, Just out of curiocity, what caused your iPhone to go into DFU mode? Were you trying to jailbreak and are you sure it’s in DFU mode and not in recovery mode? Also, I believe Scott is correct in saying that you can restore from iTunes if your phone is in DFU mode. A manual restore using an IPSW file is of course not a problem, but I don’t think it’s necessary.
