RE: iPhone 4 help for overriding spelling and app swotcher question, related to using seeing Eye app

2013-08-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sharon,

I usually have the auto correct feature turned off because I don't like how
it works, but I just turned it on and used your example just in a notes app.
First time round it also put Breaker in, but then I tried again and as soon
as it suggested Break I deleted a character, the k, then continued with
ley and I got Brealey although Voiceover of course said it was
misspelled. Give it a try, I always thought the auto correct feature was
supposed to only put in the suggested word if what you hear is what you want
and you then press the spacebar. In this case this does not seem to be the
case because I very carefully typed Brealey and then pressed the spacebar
and it put in breaker. Only way around it was to let it suggest Breaker,
then to delete the ker and put ley in its place.

As for the Seeing Eye app running in the background and using data that
definitely is not going to be happening right now since the app does not
even work unless it has focus, e.g. if you exit the app by pressing the home
key or even just lock the screen, the app stops working. The latter was
something Mike pointed out as a major drawback and I agree. These GPS apps
use enough battery as is and even if you turn the brightness down to 0,
having the screen on all the time uses even more.

If I double tap and hold on an app in the app switcher until I hear Editing
Apps and then proceed to remove all apps by double tapping them, Voiceover
on my 4S will say App Switcher has no items after the last app is gone.
If I want to completely clear my app switcher, I usually touch the very
first app on the left, hold my finger on it and then split tap with another
finger. If you don't move the first finger, as the first app closes, the
next app slides over so to speak under that finger and you can just continue
to split tap as each app moves to the left into that position under your
finger.

Sieghard

Subject: iPhone 4 help for overriding spelling and app swotcher question,
related to using seeing Eye app

Hi All,

These questions likely apply to general phone use but I am asking in context
of the new Seeing Eye app use.

I am trying to enter an address in the text field and it will not accept
what I type and keeps changing my word to Breaker when the street name is
Brealey. How do I make the auto correct not take over?

Also as Seeing Eye uses data, I am concerned about it running and using data
when I may think it is off but may still be on. I have gone into app
switcher doing double tap of the home button, doing the tap and hold until I
hear editing apps when I can then do the split tap but voice over is not
saying anything to tell me there is nothing left in the app switcher. I am
sure it used to confirm the app switcher was empty.

Advice greatly appreciated.

Peace and Positivity

Sharon

2013-08-01 Thread Sharon Ballantyne
Hi there,
Thank-you for your kindness in checking this spelling issue.

How do I disable the auto spelling correction feature?

Also do you know if I can check somewhere if I have somehow regarding the
reality that my app switcher is no longer speaking that I have no items left in
the app switcher? I must have done something but I have no idea what.

I really appreciate the clarification about the Seeing Eye app.

2013-08-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sharon,

To disable auto correction, go here:

Settings, General, Keyboard. Second item is Auto Correction. Double tap on
it to turn it off.

Next to it is Check Spelling. I usually leave this on, this way Voiceover
will say if a word is misspelled, but it won't auto correct it.

As for your app switcher, I don't think there is anything you can do to not
make Voiceover say App Switcher has no items.
If I remove all apps and swipe left and right it just goes back and forth
between saying Dismiss App Switcher and App Switcher Has no items.
Can you explain what it says for you? Do you get the Dismiss app switcher
message? If so, what do you get if you do a single finger swipe right from
that?

If you want write to me directly since this might go into more details than
what most people want to read about. My email is siegh...@live.ca.

Regards,
Sieghard
