Lots of folks out there doing that very thing. It’s almost a dishonest

I’m shocked that Amazon doesn’t monitor that type of activity more closely.

As for you, I know you wouldn’t do that because you are just too honest!

Check to see what thermostats the installer carries that work with the Total
Connect comfort app. Certainly many of the newer Honeywell thermostats will,
but I know other brands also work with it.

You should be able to find out quickly if they work with Echo devices by
opening the add device and click on thermostats, and I think it offers a list
of potential thermostats. I can check after a while, but wanted to get this
sent since you are on a tight time frame.

Hi List,

Unfortunately, I’m having to replace my central heating and air conditioning
systems. I don’t have the specific manufacturer make and model of the system
I’ve chosen but it is made by Trane. Since a new thermostat is required with
the new system, it makes sense to get one that is accessible with my iPhone and
also works with my Amazon Echo so that the installers of the new system can
install it at the same time. I’m dealing with a tight timeframe since the
installation process starts tomorrow.

I know this topic has come up repeatedly but I’m hoping someone would not mind
reposting their recommendation for accessible thermostats. Any comments on
which systems are required to work with a particular accessible thermostat are
also needed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

To each their own, this sounds like a somewhat clunky solution to me having to
purchase two things and I for one certainly would not want to carry my
thermostat around from room to room and next thing I am running around trying
to find it.
The Honeywell T10 allows you to add sensors to multiple rooms and I believe so
does the Ecobee and maybe the Nest. I prefer to just tell Alexa in whichever
room I am in to turn the heat up or down.

I think it depends a bit on what type of system you re getting. Doesn't the
company which installs your system have any recommendations? I recently asked
for a quote to upgrade my 25-year old mid efficiency natural gas furnace to a
new high efficiency furnace and heat pump. For us up here in northern BC a heat
pump can have a lot of advantages, unfortunately it is too cold in the winter
at times to rely on it exclusively since once you get to below -5 or -8 degrees
it can't take any heat out of the air any more and you still need an
alternative source furnace like natural gas or electric.
Anyways, my point is that the quote I received is for an American Standard
furnace and heat pump which are all linked together and in order to get the
best performance you also need the American Standard thermostat. I have this
also at my retail store and the app which is called "AS Home" is quite
accessible, not so much the scheduling option, but all the rest I would say is
just as good as with my Honeywell Lyric T5 which uses the Honeywell Home app
and while I don't think the American Standard thermostat is home kit
compatible, it is compatible with both Alexa and google.
If you can have any thermostat you want I think the Honeywell Lyric line are a
good choice which would be the T10 if you want it to be compatible with air
conditioning.

RE: iPhone accessible thermostat preferably with Echo capability?

2021-09-20 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Pam, Richard, and Others who replied,

Thanks so very much for your quick replies. I ended up getting the Ecobee 4
Smart Thermostat. The folks at my air conditioning company were very helpful
researching the smart thermostats and confirmed that they’ve had good success
with the Ecobees working with the systems they install. They even found one
locally and bought it at the same price charged by Amazon so it could be
installed when they install the new system tomorrow. It will be very nice to be
able to use Alexa to control my thermostat going forward.

Thanks again for all the quick replies and help.

Alan,

We recently got an Ecobee thermostat which was recommended by our HVAC company
and it works with our Trane air conditioner. I do not remember the specific
model offhand, though.

My husband and I are both blind, and after the initial setup, we have had no
issues using it with their app or Alexa. The only time we needed sighted help
was during the setup process to enter the WIFI information directly on the
touch screen of the unit. There may have been a way around this that we might
have missed at the time, but a call to AIRA helped get this part done.

Anyway, we are very happy with this unit.

Alan,

Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone and go to add new device and select
thermostat and it will ask you for the brand and give you a pretty long list of
brands.

That might help.

The company should be able to tell you which thermostats work with your new
system that are Wi-Fi compatible.

HTH,

Check to see what thermostats the installer carries that work with the Total
Connect comfort app. Certainly many of the newer Honeywell thermostats will,
but I know other brands also work with it.

You should be able to find out quickly if they work with Echo devices by

Subject: iPhone accessible thermostat preferably with Echo capability?

I know this topic has come up repeatedly but I’m hoping someone would not
mind reposting their recommendation for accessible thermostats. Any comments on
which systems are required to work with a particular accessible thermostat are
also needed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: iPhone accessible thermostat preferably with Echo capability?

2021-09-20 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND

Pam

Alan,
Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone and go to add new device and select
thermostat and it will ask you for the brand and give you a pretty long list of
brands.

That might help.
The company should be able to tell you which thermostats work with your new
system that are Wi-Fi compatible.

RE: iPhone accessible thermostat preferably with Echo capability?

2021-09-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

2021-09-20 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi Alan,
We have used the Nest Thermostat for years. I realize there are less expensive
options out there. As far as the app is concerned, other than not being able to
work the schedule feature, it is perfectly accessible. The schedule is not a
big issue for me, since it learns your preferences as you adjust the
temperature. That piece works well. When we travel, it is easy to adjust the
state of the system. For instance, we went away for 9 days, and I turned the
system off. Before we arrived home, I was able to re-enable the system. It does
work with Alexa. Hope this helps.
