I remember a while ago, I talked to someone at apple accessibility.
They were very helpful, and told me, that if you didn't want to use face ID,
you could use your pass-code instead. If the iPhone 13 doesn't have a touch ID
option, that's what I'm going to do. I'm glad if I don't want to use faceID I
don't have to. I do like touch ID a lot, though, because if I want to purchase

makes a little ding, and I've purchased my app. Its very easy.

RE: thinking of up grading phones

2021-03-11 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I have to agree,

I’m looking to update my 11 pro max but I’m getting the 13 rather than the 12
simply because the 5g tech is still in the early stages,
And if there is an underscreen touch id then hey double the security options.

The only thing we have to watch with face id is if attention mode is on,
I know for myself looking at the camera is next to bloody impossible and I can
look people directly in the eye

I agree with Sieghard on all counts.
Face ID works quite well, blind or not, and also finger dexterity might make
entering a passcode hard, but it shouldn’t effect touch ID since you just have
to touch the home button after training it, and training it is just touching it
at slightly different angles until it learns your finger.

And, on upgrading, unless you need a new phone right now because your current
phone is malfunctioning, wait and see what the 13 offers, plus, the 11 prices
will drop when the 13 comes out.

Not sure what being blind has to do with Face Id and being able to unlock your
phone way easier and faster. I really hate it now when I have to unlock my
phone in a store or authenticate a purchase and wearing my mask requires me to
put in my passcode. I have an Apple Watch so I can't wait for 14.5 getting
released because Apple has made it possible to do all that with Face Id and a
mask on as long as you also wear your Apple Watch. I often want to check
something when I am walking along with my dog and with Face I d I can just pull
my phone out of it's belt case with my right hand, I can usually manage a swipe
up and then I just glance at my phone and it unlocks. If iI have to enter my
PIN I have to stop, drop the harness and use two hands.

But, if you really need to upgrade sooner, you will probably find good deals on

Check with your carrier if you are thinking about the 12 since some carriers

That's somewhat bad luck for you folks,

We heerre in NZ don't have to wear masks unless traveling on planes or public

But I thought apple and Samsung did something to allow the phones to scan your
face while wearing a mask and it works.

the mask has made using face id so annoying. Other than that most of the time

And with Face Id you simply look at yoru phone instead of putting your finger
on the home button, as others pointed out, it's just as easy and seamless and
in some cases it works even better in others not. It seems there is a pretty
high probability that this Fall's iPhone will have both which would of course
be great.

The nice thing is, you don't have to use face ID if you don't want to.
I do like touch ID a lot, though, because if I want to purchase
an app, all I have to do, is just put my thumb on the home button. My phone
makes a little ding, and I've purchased my app. Its very easy.

Definitely far more convenient than passcode.

There’s nothing wrong with using pass codes, but face ID is perfectly usable by
a blind person. I find it more convenient then a passcode myself.

I’ve always stuck to passcode. I don’t see the use of Face ID since I’m blind,
and my degstarity is not the greatest for Touch ID.

It isn't that hard, but if your 8 is working fine, you may want to wait
until we hear more details on what the iPhone 13 has to offer this fall. Rumor
has it that it may contain both touch ID and Face ID.

But, if you really need to upgrade sooner, you will probably find good

I agree with Sieghard on all counts.

Face ID works quite well, blind or not, and also finger dexterity might make
entering a passcode hard, but it shouldn’t effect touch ID since you just have
to touch the home button after training it, and training it is just touching it
at slightly different angles until it learns your finger.

And, on upgrading, unless you need a new phone right now because your current
phone is malfunctioning, wait and see what the 13 offers, plus, the 11 prices
will drop when the 13 comes out.

I wouldn't worry about any of this nonsense. There's always something new or
rumored on the horizon.
If you want or need a new iPhone, go ahead and do it now.

RE: thinking of up grading phones

2021-03-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

I’ve always stuck to passcode. I don’t see the use of Face ID since I’m blind,
and my degstarity is not the greatest for Touch ID.

2021-03-11 Thread Richard Turner
Another thing I forgot to mention, is that Face ID is great if you happen to
have wet finger tips. After washing dishes, I cannot unlock my phone without
using my passcode. I have the SE 2nd gen, so no face ID. But when I was
working and used the iPHone 11, the Face ID worked great.
Just drying your hands with a towel doesn't always get enough of the moisture
off to not mess up the fingerprint sensor.

And with Face Id you simply look at yoru phone instead of putting your finger
on the home button, as others pointed out, it's just as easy and seamless and
in some cases it works even better in others not. It seems there is a pretty
high probability that this Fall's iPhone will have both which would of course

The nice thing is, you don't have to use face ID if you don't want to.
I do like touch ID a lot, though, because if I want to purchase
an app, all I have to do, is just put my thumb on the home button. My phone
makes a little ding, and I've purchased my app. Its very easy.

2021-03-11 Thread Christopher Chaltain
There’s nothing wrong with using pass codes, but face ID is perfectly usable by
a blind person. I find it more convenient then a passcode myself.

It isn't that hard, but if your 8 is working fine, you may want to wait until
we hear more details on what the iPhone 13 has to offer this fall. Rumor has it
that it may contain both touch ID and Face ID.
But, if you really need to upgrade sooner, you will probably find good deals on
the 11.
Check with your carrier if you are thinking about the 12 since some carriers
charge more for 5 g service, even if they do not currently offer it since that

You can still use the original gestures to access the Notifications and Control
Center.
Just touch the status bar, at the top of the screen, then swipe down with
3-fingers, to access the Notification area, or swipe up with 3-fingers to
access the Control Center.
Works like a charm, as it always has on all older iPhones.

As a side note, I do like Face ID.

I have a friend who has the iPhone 12 mini and encourages me to get one in my
next phone upgrade. I guess I’ll have to get used to the new way of home button
lol. And actually I’ve gotten used to Facebook not having the back button. It
sure is annoying for a lot of blind users but double tapping on newsfeed if
we’re scrolling in our newsfeeds, brings us back to the list of postings and
same applies for the notifications.

I do find myself tapping the screen on my se to unlock it, when I need to press
the home button to wake it up.

That’s however what you get when you have both an 11 and an se 2nd edition.

Yes it will, but to put mine on, I went outside on a bright and sunny day. I
bring up my phone in a dark room any time I want to with facial ID, and it
works fine.

FaceID uses infrared light, which is emitted from sensors located near the
earpiece on a FaceID enabled device.
The presents of sunlight is irrelevant, because FaceID does not use visible
light, and will work in complete and total darkness.

Yes, to get Home Page, slide one finger up until you hear a little pop, and
swing finger up twice for App Switcher, down once for Control Center and down
to two pops for Notifications. VOILA, that is it! It just works!

No there isn’t. I went from an iPhone 7 and a Galaxy S7, both of which have
home buttons, to a iPhone 11, which doesn’t have a home button, and it didn’t
take long at all to pick up. You just swipe up from the bottom of the screen to
get to the home page or bring up the app switcher. You also use the other
physical buttons to do things like toggle voiceOver on and off or reset the
phone.

I know many, such as Jonathan Mosen, who prefer the Plus-size iPhones, because
the larger phone provides more room for braille screen input.

Re: thinking of up grading phones

2021-03-10 Thread Brad Snyder
No reason to wait. Face ID is seamless and superior to touch ID.
You won't regret making the upgrade. Don't waste your time or money on the
iPhone 11, 5G is the future.

It isn't that hard, but if your 8 is working fine, you may want to wait until
we hear more details on what the iPhone 13 has to offer this fall. Rumor has it
that it may contain both touch ID and Face ID.
But, if you really need to upgrade sooner, you will probably find good deals on

Check with your carrier if you are thinking about the 12 since some carriers
charge more for 5 g service, even if they do not currently offer it since that
is part of the iPhone 12.

Re: thinking of up grading phones

2021-03-10 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
The nice thing is, you don't have to use face ID if you don't want to.
I remember a while ago, I talked to someone at apple accessibility.
They were very helpful, and told me, that if you didn't want to use
face ID, you could use your pass-code instead. If the iPhone 13
doesn't have a touch ID option, that's what I'm going to do. I'm glad
if I don't want to use faceID I don't have to. I do like touch ID a
lot, though, because if I want to purchase an app, all I have to do,
is just put my thumb on the home button. My phone makes a little
ding, and I've purchased my app. Its very easy.

Re: thinking of up grading phones

2021-03-10 Thread Brad Snyder
Everyone's different, but when I first got my iPhone X, I easily learned the
new gestures. After about an hour, I never gave it another thought. Now, it
seems so weird to use my wife's iPhone SE with a home button. Actually, I
really hate using a phone with a home button. It seemed very cumbersome and
awkward to have to fool with that home button.
