Really? The 30 day trial is only $1.95? If that is truly the case, you only
get one 30 day trial. The one year charge is $80, and the three year charge
is $120. This is $.22 per day for one year, or $.11 per day for three years.
Given this pricing, there is no way the company would charge only $.065 per
day for 30 days at a time.

available GPS apps, that we could probably have a separate mailing list
just to discuss this one capability. I also realize that my questions
could generate a variety of opinions but that's OK.
So, here's the thing. I'm relatively new to the iPhone and started out
in the world of GPS with the built-in Maps app, which I can use and, for
the most part, which I like. I've also downloaded several free GPS apps
that I'm in the process of evaluating and learning. One of the things
that I really loved about Maps was that I could have it constantly speak
my current location, which I found beneficial while on the train going
to work. Given the capabilities of many of these free apps, are the
specialized, blindness-specific GPS apps worth paying for? What
benefits can we get with Seeing eye or Blindsquare?

RE: [SPAM]Question About Various GPS Apps for iPhone

2014-07-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The correct pricing for the Seeing Eye app is $9.99 for 1 month, $69 for 1
year and $129 for 3 years.
If somebody is like me and only needs it 3 or 4 times a year when travelling
to Vancouver or another city in the US or Canada the $9.99 option for 1
month access is a good choice as I would pay $30 or $40 a year for having
the use of the app when I need it.
If somebody uses it on an almost daily bases and really likes how the
information is presented than paying $129 for 3 years or $3.61 a month is a
pretty good option. But as David said, it's only an option for those of us
who live in Canada, the US or England at this point and Blindsquare in
combination with Apple or Google Maps also works very well.

Sieghard

I completely agree, Christopher. Also, blindness GPS apps can provide a
level of intersection announcement that mainstream maps solutions simply
would not know about. Also, with blindness specific GPS apps you can get
different information from multiple apps in tandem, and you can lock your
screen which I deem to be much more secure. In most cases, you also do not
have to be operating the screen of your phone while you are walking, to find
necessary information.

I'll just toss out that whether you consider this an extreme premium is a
personal decision. It'll depend on each person's economic situation and how
much they're willing to pay for the convenience and features in the Seeing
Eye app. What one person might consider an extreme premium another might
consider a bargain, especially if independence and personal safety is
involved.

Subject: [SPAM]Question About Various GPS Apps for iPhone

I realize that this particular topic is so vast, due to the amount of
available GPS apps, that we could probably have a separate mailing
list just to discuss this one capability. I also realize that my
questions could generate a variety of opinions but that's OK.
So, here's the thing. I'm relatively new to the iPhone and started
out in the world of GPS with the built-in Maps app, which I can use
and, for the most part, which I like. I've also downloaded several
free GPS apps that I'm in the process of evaluating and learning. One
of the things that I really loved about Maps was that I could have it
constantly speak my current location, which I found beneficial while
on the train going to work. Given the capabilities of many of these
free apps, are the specialized, blindness-specific GPS apps worth
paying for? What benefits can we get with Seeing eye or Blindsquare?

Re: [SPAM]Question About Various GPS Apps for iPhone

2014-06-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I'll just toss out that whether you consider this an extreme premium is
a personal decision. It'll depend on each person's economic situation
and how much they're willing to pay for the convenience and features in
the Seeing Eye app. What one person might consider an extreme premium
another might consider a bargain, especially if independence and
personal safety is involved.

I get most of the same features from Apple Maps for free. I just need to put VO
on the appropriate field to monitor, and I need to manually move VO to the
information I wish. Finally, for that extreme premium, one is limited to only
the US, and maybe Canada. For the UK, you need to use a different app, with the
same premiums. Outside those places, there is no Sendero GPS app.
