Re: oovoo was Re: An iPhone app that is like Skype that lets you talk from iPhone to iPhone
Hi there. Yes, the clarity is actually at least on par with Skype on the iphone, if not better. If it wasn't for the fact that it's quite having a will of its own, that is sometimes it works and sometimes not, i'd say that i'd probably use Oovoo more than i would Skype at this point. /Krister 13 maj 2014 kl. 19:07 skrev Christina C. blindmaclo...@gmail.com: Krister, Do you find the clarity of the oovoo calls to be better or clearer than with skype? Hi, the best cross platform I've found is Skype. I believe the original message that other than skype, I mean, it's in the subject. Really though, for me it's either Facetime or Skype. Usually I use Skype when I want to talk to people who are on a PC or who use Android. I'm hoping I can switch to Google hangouts but they need to make that app more accessible soon. -- Raul A. Hi The only comment I will make about viber using an iPhone 4s is that, if someone calls you, you actually need to tap the answer button, and likewise on the end call button to end the call. Double tapping with 2 fingers does not work for me on my phone in this app, which is a pity for me. RE: An iPhone app that is like Skype that lets you talk from iPhone to iPhone
Hi Jan, That is no different than with Skype or any other VoIP app I have so far tried. I am not sure if companies just don't implement this feature or whether Apple restricts the usage of the 2-finger double tap to answer and hang up a call to the native phone app, but it is what it is and it also applies to using the remote on the Apple headset or a Bluetooth headset to answer and end calls which also does not work in Skype or other VoIP apps.. However, I must say that I always thought touch typing on the DialPad was also something restricted since it used to be that this also only worked in the phone app, but for the last few versions you can dial using touch typing in the Skype app. It works on the main DialPad, but not on the DialPad you can bring up during a call if you have to enter numbers. Re: An iPhone app that is like Skype that lets you talk from iPhone to iPhone
I wonder if the original requester was possibly trying to ask about an app that allows communication between two iPhones not connected to *any* network. i recall an announcement of an app like that and it was of interest to me for those times when one is away from all networks or does not wish to pay for a network that might be available. I know that there was mention of iCast but when I searched for iCast in the App Store, the app I downloaded does not seem to be the one that accomplishes this function. Is there an app called iCast that allows for direct communication without a wifi or cellular connection? Does FaceTime require a particular network? Since it works over WiFi you can use it with an iPod Touch and they don't require a network other than Wi-Fi. FaceTime does not require a specific network unless you use it over cellular data, in which case you must check with the provider that they don't block FaceTime. Ours in the UK don't. How would the data get from one iPhone to the other if no wifi or cellular network was available? Re: An iPhone app that is like Skype that lets you talk from iPhone to iPhone
If you are just wanting to do Iphone to iPhone, faceTime is already on your phone as you know. :) However, if you want cross platform than you will need to download an app. I seem to have bad luck with those apps because I seem to always have trouble getting a good connection or something. :) There is one I have been itching to try called oovoo. I have downloaded it and registered with an account but I have not tried it out for accessibility yet. It's free though if you are wanting to give it a try. I keep saying I am going to try it out with my kids but I haven't done so yet. :) Christina -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: An iPhone app that is like Skype that lets you talk from iPhone to iPhone
Hi Lea, There's also Viber, which, on cursory inspection, seems to be fully accessible, and just as easy to use as Skype. It also does a look up of your contacts list to see which of your friends use Viber, so you may want to give this app a try. Good luck. RE: An iPhone app that is like Skype that lets you talk from iPhone to iPhone
Hi Christina, If you can do Facetime calls and the quality is good then you should have even better call quality with Skype since it uses less data than Facetime. Given how many people have Skype, how pervasive it is across different platforms and how accessible it is I find little reason why I should try something else.
