Re: Hot keys for OS X

2015-05-14 Thread Alex Hall
The command you want here is ctrl-f5 (remember that you might need to add the
function key, depending on your settings). This moves between wherever you are
and the toolbar, if one is present. Control with most of the F keys does
something--f2 jumps to the menu bar like vo-m, f3 goes to the dock, f4 moves
between open windows in an app (like cmd-accent), and f8 moves to the Status
Menus. In most text fields, control with different letters does something,
too--ctrl-t will transpose the two character the cursor is between, ctrl-d is
forward delete (same as fn-delete) and plenty more. Here are two links to OS X
shortcuts, though I can't find the one I was hoping to:

 Dear listers

Sorry that this is a little off topic for a phone list but I’m gradually
getting to grips with OS X and one Q I have is whether there are hot keys for
easy jumping around sections of an app – a little like F6 in Windows. For
example many apps have a sidebar and, whilst you can use VO+J to move to and
interact with a related element I can’t see an easy way of jumping to that
sidebar regardless of where you are in an app’s UI. Any general keystrokes
that help you quickly get somewhere within an app would be good. I know about
 the item chooser of course.

 Thanks
