Thanks, Flor. This is something I had not thought of doing, and I am already
thinking of various ways to work with this idea. I sincerely appreciate this
thought.

Re: Question About Bible Reading With Braille Display

2016-03-25 Thread Flor Lynch
Hi,

Have you tried (where there are a number of consecutive pannings with just one
or two words across, say), quickly panning down a number of lines? The display
may then ‘catch up’ with your panning, going down by itself but allowing you to
read with more consistency. (I know that this is the case on screens which also
have pictures: I’ve a Focus14 Blue, which sometimes can’t go fast enough
through the screen; so I found that doing the above helped me read the braille
faster.) That may not be your problem exactly, but could give you some ideas
for further experimentation.

Subject: Question About Bible Reading With Braille Display
Hello, all. I am experiencing a rather embarrassing problem. When trying to
read from the Bible aloud at church, I am finding that there seems to be no
current solution that keeps me from stumbling in my reading.

Let me briefly explain the situation. I am an excellent Braille reader using a
Brailliant display with IOS 9.3. I have the Bible from Life Church and have
tried reading from it. What I find is that often, there are only two or three
Braille words on a line, and sometimes only one word, which means that I have
to hit the panning button again and this makes me read rather awkwardly. I had
a sighted friend check yesterday, and the screen has a full line of text. Yet,
whether using Braille or just flicking right with VoiceOver, often there are
only one or two words that appear.

I have tried downloading Bibles from Bookshare, but they all seem to have
footnote indicators or the footnotes themselves, which again makes my reading
very choppy. I have a Bible from IBooks, but it takes forever to load this and
to search on my iPhone 6 with 16 gb.

What I am looking for is a simple way to read the Bible aloud from Braille
where the line is full except for when there are paragraph changes. Does anyone
have any ideas? Thanks for any help you can give.

Keith

Re: Question About Bible Reading With Braille Display

2016-03-25 Thread Keith B.
Hi, Sandi. I look forward to getting my hands on one of these displays. It will
give much greater convenience, especially if it works with a screen reader and
is mobile. I'm a little disappointed about the Braille Kindle thing being more
of a desktop machine and not working with a screen reader, but, hey, we're
making progress at least!

2016-03-25 Thread Mary Otten
Regarding that first one, the so-called braille Kindle, forget that for mobile
use. I just heard an update about that, an interview on blind bargains audio.
It's going to be big something you would use on a desktop. And it's not really
made for use with a screen reader either. So, won't be any good for what you
are talking about.

Keith,
Not an answer for the immediate future, but later this year, if all promises
prove true, we should have a choice between at least two different full-page
refreshable braille displays.The first one is from M I T University (I think I
have that right) which they are calling a kind of braille kindle. The second is
called BLtab. both claim that their products will be much cheaper than existing
Braille displays. I have been following the quest for the holy Braille for some
years now, but, finally, I think we might actually have got there! so, watch
this space!
Good luck, Sandy
