Deauthorizing an Old iPhone was RE: Question about adding a new iPhone to iTunes

2015-02-20 Thread Alan Lemly
Okay, I'm convinced that deauthorizing an old device from your iTunes
account is a good idea. I found an article called How to Deauthorize an
iPhone on iTunes after a Google search and it is at this link:

http://everydaylife.globalpost.com/deauthorize-iphone-itunes-21360.html

I'll paste the main steps to deauthorize a device using iTunes after my
signature but let me caution that accessibility from the section in iTunes
where this is done was not great on my system. I'm using the ZoomText screen
reader and while it did read me the remove buttons next to my 3 devices
listed, it did not read me the device descriptions and dates. I would not
have been able to safely remove anything if I didn't still have some usable
vision. That's just a caveat for those considering doing this.

Thanks to Charles and others on this thread who consistently expressed their
opinions.

Alan Lemly

Here's what I copied from the website link above:

How to Deauthorize an iPhone on iTunes

When upgrading iPhones, users often trade in or sell their existing model to
help offset the cost of the new device. You should always deauthorize your
old phone in iTunes before getting rid of it to ensure no one else can
access your purchases, personal data or iTunes account. You should also
deauthorize your iPhone if it is lost or stolen.

Step 1

Open iTunes on your Mac or Windows PC.

Step 2

Click the Store menu and select View Account.

Step 3

Enter your Apple ID and password and then press Enter.

Step 4

Scroll down to the section labeled iTunes in the Cloud.

Step 5

Click Manage Devices.

Step 6

Click Remove next to the device you want to deauthorize.

I figure that, to eliminate confusion and clutter, if you sell your phone,
why not remove it from your iTunes account? As an example, I have two
iPhones named identically. I could tell which is which by the date beside
each.

ITunes uses the same label to refer to both phones and now my Alan's iPhone

iTunes to restore one of my 5's backups to my new phone, I did not want to

Everything seems to be working just fine in iTunes.

Enjoy your new phone.

2015-02-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello,

I've not been following this entire thread but one thing I always do when
purchasing a new phone is to give it a unique name from any of my other phones
or devices.

For example Mark's iPHone 6 Plus, Mark's iPHone 5 S, etc.

I do this so that each phone has its own unique sync and backup profile.

My Account in the iTunes store and went to manage Devices. In iTunes 12.1.1, I
see two buttons both of which say remove. Is one supposed to be an add button
and the other a remove button. Is this a problem with the latest iTunes, or am
I not in the right place to do this. Using JAWS 16.
Thanks much.

Re: Question about adding a new iPhone to iTunes

2015-02-19 Thread Charles Rivard
I figure that, to eliminate confusion and clutter, if you sell your phone, why
not remove it from your iTunes account? As an example, I have two iPhones
named identically. I could tell which is which by the date beside each.

Well, that's the thing. I'm not sure devices show up in iTunes unless they
are physically connected to the computer or maybe connected via wifi. My new
iPhone 6 shows up as Alan's iPhone which is how my old iPhone 5 also showed up.
Since the 5 has been sold and won't be connected to iTunes again, I'm not sure
removing the device is required. Maybe one of our more iTunes proficient
experts can weigh in here.

I would think that, if you so choose, as long as everything's working on your
new phone, you could remove the old one. I may do that if I sell my iPhone 5.

Neal,

Maybe I missed something but when I got my new iPhone 6 at the beginning of
this month, I never did anything to remove my old iPhone 5 from iTunes. ITunes
uses the same label to refer to both phones and now my Alan's iPhone refers to
my iPhone 6 where before it referred to my 5. Since I was using iTunes to
restore one of my 5's backups to my new phone, I did not want to remove any
devices.

Everything seems to be working just fine in iTunes.

Enjoy your new phone.

You are in the right place.

Below, I paste what my exploration shows. I hope this gives an idea of
the layout that you're apparently not able to see with your setup:

The first was my iPhone 5, the second is my iPhone6, and the third is my
laptop computer. So, I'm figuring that if you're seeing two remove buttons,
the first is your current iPhone and the second is your computer. When you get
your phone next week, that phone will become the top remove button once
authorized.

Subject: Question about adding a new iPhone to iTunes

Hi, I will be getting my iPhone 6 next week, so I did some exploring to
see if I knew how to add it to iTunes and delete the old one sometime later. I
went to My Account in the iTunes store and went to manage Devices. In iTunes
12.1.1, I see two buttons both of which say remove. Is one supposed to be an
add button and the other a remove button. Is this a problem with the latest

Thanks much.
