I would have to agree, the speed hasn't really been all that
noticeable, I am using a 7plus and not really in a rush to upgrade.

Unless you really need the better camera and want Face I d there is in my
opinion not even a good reason to update from an iPhone 8 to an iPhone 11 or 11
Pro.
Yes, apart from the above you get better battery life and it will be a bit
faster, but I am always surprised how little difference I notice in most
day-to-day usage when I get a new phone, e.g. when I updated from my 6S Plus to
the 8, a jump of 2 generations and one where theoretically the processor is so
much faster. I’m sure you may see that difference more if you do a lot of
playing games or other things like maybe video or photo editing and so on, but
for using my banking app, sending a text or email, using my various home
automation apps it makes very little difference.

which was 3 years after the 6S Plus. I expect I have the iPhone 8 for 3 years
and who knows, maybe I’ll even keep it for 4 years, it all depends on what
deals are being offered. When my wife and I bought the iPhone 8 we actually had
already decided to stick with our 6S phones for another year and we then would
have bought probably an XR last year, but around Black Friday in 2018 our
provider offered the iPhone 8 64Gb for a $150 downpayment and $15 over 2 years
which adds up to a total of $510 and back then if I had bought an unlocked
iPhone 8 from Apple it would have been $819 so getting it for $310 less seemed
like a pretty good deal and after selling my 6S Plus at the time for $400 I
essentially am paying a bit more than $100. All these prices are Canadian
Dollars.

I know at least one sighted person who prefers a phone like the SE because it
fits his trouser pockets. I don’t think he uses it particularly for media such
as Netflix etc. It depends on what a person wants, with some its the
convenience of carrying it. I prefer small for their cuteness but prefer larger
for accessing the keyboard so for me, larger is more practical.

All the best

Don't know if Blackberry still exists but Apricot and Acorn have long

Not sure if the other lot are still into desserts.

So, SE++ would do it for me I reckon.

and there was of course also 8.1.

But of course that has little to do with the iPhone which nobody knows what
Apple will call it, SE 2 or 9 or something entirely different, but somehow I
actually think iPhone 9 is the least likely.
As far as the phone itself it will probably a winner just as the SE was, it
will have the same size and screen size as the iPhone 8 but with most likely
the latest A13 chip, but still with Touch Id and a camera system probably
better than that of the 8, maybe that of the XR. And it will of course be a
budget phone at least according to Apple standards.

Rob the other one to look at would be the 11 or if you need the home button,
Go an 8
Also one thing people might want to think of currently is the current state of
the corona virus in china,

It's causing companys like HP Dell and Apple to take a look at their
manufacturing plants in china

HP have got a factory in the major problem area of china which is causing a
production delay for asia / pacific stocks
Dell are keeping an eye on things and apple may have to delay configure to
order requests for devices in their notebook ranges.
These are warnings we've just been given at work re our purchasing of devices
for staff.

Hi Dennis,

Yeah I think to it’s a couple of years off being intro’d here in NZ,

I don’t need a new phone for at least this year
Having the 11 pro max should see me through till 2021 I hope,

Or if I can sell my x and my 11 I might get a new one this year.

Its just several years from being rolled out. Even than when it first comes
out there is probably going to be issues. If you want a new phone at an
affordable price grab the iPhone9. I will. I have android and iOS. I have
noticed some things are better on iPhone though especially if you use a
physical keyboard. Plus some apps will work better on one platform than
another.

But of course that has little to do with the iPhone which nobody knows what
Apple will call it, SE 2 or 9 or something entirely
different, but somehow I actually think iPhone 9 is the least likely.
As far as the phone itself it will probably a winner just as the SE was, it
will have the same size and screen size as the iPhone 8
but with most likely the latest A13 chip, but still with Touch Id and a camera
system probably better than that of the 8, maybe that
of the XR. And it will of course be a budget phone at least according to Apple
standards.

Here is the difference, first number is the iPhone SE, second the iPhone 8 and
third is the difference:

Length: 123mm, 138mm, 15mm

Width: 58mm, 65mm, 7mm

That may not sound much, but it’s actually not so little, either, 15mm more in
length is just a touch less than five eight of an inch or a little more than
double the thickness of an iPhone 8

7mm more in width is a little over a quarter of an inch or about the thickness
of the iPhone 8 which is 7.3mm thick.

The SE weighs 113 grams whereas the iPhone 8 is 148 grams, a difference of 35
grams or just a bit more than 1 ounce.

Your iPhone 8 is a perfectly fine phone and it will serve you well for another
2 years, I have one myself and certainly wouldn’t even dream about buying this
upcoming phone which almost certainly will not have 5G support.

Whether I buy an iPhone 12 in the fall depends greatly on what Apple comes up
with, but for me it is also unlikely since it will probably have first
generation support for 5G, and maybe even first generation support for under
display touch ID, but in my opinion the phones nowadays are such mature
products and so expensive that I want to get at least 3 years out of one and
even better 4. I figure if I guy whatever iPhone comes out in the fall of 2021
I get a model which better supports some of these new technologies, by then my
iPhone 8 which I only bought in December of 2018 will be 3 years old and it
will have earned it’s money.

I know some people are on plans which allow them to upgrade each year, but of
course these types of plans don’t come for free an d in the end Apple and the

Ok, many thanks for this, this is one I could and maybe would buy. Quite a
change since I was getting so disillusioned with fruit
in general and Apples in particular.
Don't know if Blackberry still exists but Apricot and Acorn have long
disappeared. Even Raspberry has gone quiet.
Not sure if the other lot are still into desserts.

So, SE++ would do it for me I reckon.

Thanks, RobH.

6S/7/8 are as small or even smaller with the same screen size if they make them
without Touch Id, getting rid of the big bezels at the top, bottom as well as
left and right would easily make that possible. There are already rumours that
the iPhone 12 will no longer have the notch and that instead the Facetime
camera and all sensors will be embedded in a very thin bezel along the top of
the phone.
If you consider the current iPhone Se, which is 123mm long and 58mm wide, this
actually means it is just over 5.3 inches from corner to corner diagonally yet
it only has a 4 inch screen.
Without the home button taking up so much space across the bottom and with say
a quarter inch bezel across the top for Facetime sensors, front camera and so
on they could easily fit a 4.7 inch screen into that form factor.

Newer phones are just to big. Surely, sometime, the trend will go toward
smaller again. Smile!!

Its just several years from being rolled out. Even than when it first comes
out there is probably going to be issues. If you want a new phone at an
affordable price grab the iPhone9. I will. I have android and iOS. I have
noticed some things are better on iPhone though especially if you use a
physical keyboard. Plus some apps will work better on one platform than
another.

10 excellent. Server 2019 hmmm, I'm not sure I'm happy with it being so cloud

Oh, and there was of course also 8.1.

But of course that has little to do with the iPhone which nobody knows what

actually think iPhone 9 is the least likely.
As far as the phone itself it will probably a winner just as the SE was, it

Re: Thoughts on iPhone9?

2020-02-09 Thread Cristobal Munoz
Indeed, if I didn’t have my XR, I’d be all over this bad boy like white on rice.
But since I do… I’m going to try to get at least three years out of it. I paid
full price unlocked in addition to the apple care plan since I am an iPhone
dropper. So… After taxes, I paid around 1200 bucks. It’s always tempting to go
for the newest thing, but I should be good for the three years and probably
four.

RE: Thoughts on iPhone9?

2020-02-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I wonder what makes you believe this, sighted people want big screens because a
mobile phone nowadays is not just a phone any more where you want to text and
make phone calls, it’s a powerful computer and people expect more and more of
these devices and while they may figure out how to make them fold, there is
absolutely no way screens will return to being 3.5 or 4 inches, nobody wants
that except maybe a few blind people.

The 4S was even smaller as it only had a 3.5 inch screen, the iPhone 5, 5S and
SE have a 4 inch screen and iPhone 6, 6S, 7 and 8 have a 4.7 inch screen.

RE: Thoughts on iPhone9?

2020-02-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

The only time phones will get smaller is when they figure out the folding
display, otherwise I highly doubt you will see something with a 4 inch screen
like the iPhone SE in a very long time.

Of course they could easily make a 4.7 inch phone which is what the iPhone

RE: Thoughts on iPhone9?

2020-02-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The only time phones will get smaller is when they figure out the folding
display, otherwise I highly doubt you will see something with a 4 inch screen
like the iPhone SE in a very long time.
Of course they could easily make a 4.7 inch phone which is what the iPhone

Whether I buy an iPhone 12 in the fall depends greatly on what Apple comes up

generation support for 5G, and maybe even first generation support for under

And you forgot 98SE, ME (Millenium
Edition which was between 98SE and XP and Vista which came between 7 and 8.
Oh, and there was of course also 8.1.

But of course that has little to do with the iPhone which nobody knows what
Apple will call it, SE 2 or 9 or something entirely different, but somehow I
actually think iPhone 9 is the least likely.

First 5g not being in the iPhone 9 isn’t a big deal. Its not yet widely
available. I will purchase the iPhone9. It will have a faster chip more ram
and probably a bigger battery.

If you don’t want to spend the money then why bother to buy this upcoming phone?

I know some people are on plans which allow them to upgrade each year, but of
course these types of plans don’t come for free an d in the end Apple and the
providers get their money out of you.

RE: Thoughts on iPhone9?

Infact they also made windows ME for melinium edition which was a dog with no
legs and was replaced soon after by windows xp not xT as written,

2000 was not a general os it was meant to be a enterprise system for
businesses etc and worked in conjunction with server 2000 which was the
introduction of active directory,

As for no windows 9,
Yeah that was due to old 9x code that still exists in the windows 10 origional
OS release and is possibly still in the windows 10 10/09 release.
They were concerned there would be issues.
