Re: Using Cases (was: I took a look at the iPhone 6 and 6plus.)

2014-09-20 Thread Andy Baracco
When I got my iPhone 5, I loved the way it felt in my hand, and momentarily
thought I didn’t want a case. But after a few minutes it began to feel a bit
slippery in my hand, so I bought a thin rubbery case, not so much for
protection, but to make it easier to grip.

I started with Apple in 2010 when I got an iPod. I immediately put it in an
Otterbox case, which bulked it up considerably, but I figured that was the
price of full protection. I had to use that iPod a few weeks ago while my
iPhone was away, and I eventually removed it from its case. I was so much
happier without the bulk and weight!

I have also always had my iPhone5 in a case, because that case let the phone
clip onto my belt. I never had to worry about bending the phone if I sat on it,
or having keys scratch it, or having lint get into the ports, and so on. When
that case's belt holster broke last week, I removed the case completely and
have been running my phone with no protection whatsoever. I find that, as with
the iPod, I prefer it this way. My sister has an Otterbox for her phone, and it
makes an iPhone 5S, which is a slim device to begin with, into a thick heavy
affair that I would never want to carry full time.

To each their own, and of course there are many valid reasons and situations
for using cases. I'm finding that, for myself, going caseless is rather
pleasant. I am always careful with my devices and have rarely, if ever, dropped
them, so I don't really worry about that. Besides, the case I had for my phone
would not have offered shock protection, so in that regard I lose nothing. A
screen protector is a good idea so that, if you ever pass your device to
someone else, the all-important display is kept pristine, but other than that I
think I'll stick to using my devices as they came to me, with no case and all
the Apple-engineered beauty on full display.

I go caseless… It’s the only way! Especially if you want to keep the device
in your pocket – I hate having anything in my pockets, but the iPhone, at least
the 5 and above, is so slender I don’t even notice it’s there. With a case,
though, it seriously annoys.

I’ve had two iPhones over the course of the past four years, have never used
a case, even dropped them a few times, and never had any issues as a result.

Good on ya Chuck. A man after my own heart. I don't like sullying the natural
beauty that is the iPhone with a case either.

Yes, but there's the rub. I never use a case.

Something I found interesting, when I went to my iPhone for us, I noticed how
squared off and sharpen the edges were on the phone. I was little disappointed,
I thought the 3GS was more comfortable in my hand.
I noticed that the iPhone six and 6+ are going back to the more rounded feel of
the iPhone 3GS. I guess Apple read my mind.
