Re: Using a phone that has been jailbroken without a Sim card
Hi, In this situation, the unlock won't have been because of the jailbreak as a software unlock for the 5 hasn't been released yet. The answer to your question depends on the version of iOs that the phones are running. If they are running anything other than 6.1.3, you may be able to use redsn0w to hactivate the phones and essentially turn them into iPod touches until you restore them through iTunes, at which point they would ask for a sim again. Unfortunately I haven't attempted hactivation for about 8 months so I can't be sure that it will work on the iPhone 5. If the phones are running 6.1.3 then I'm afraid you're out of luck. In the UK we have what are known as pay as you go (Or paig) sims that are extremely cheap to obtain and this would probably be the root that I would take if I just wanted to use the phones as touches - E.G. buy 2 sims and install them in the phones but never use them. Having said this, if the eventual goal is to have an iPod touch, from a profitability point of view, it would probably make sense to simply sell the 2 phones and buy a single touch. Cheers, Ben. Re: Using a phone that has been jailbroken without a Sim card
Hi, unlocking and jailbreaking are not synonymous. You can currently jailbreak an iPhone 5 as long as it's not running iOS 6.1.3, but I don't believe you can unlock it. If you can, then I need to update what I know. -- Raul A. Re: Using a phone that has been jailbroken without a Sim card
Thanks, Ben. I think he should probably buy the two sim cards, as you suggest. Is redsn0w a program he can find somewhere, in case he chooses to look into that option? The phones were purchased by his employer, so seeling them and getting Touches is not really an option at this time. Thanks again. Thanks, Donna. I have never jail broken a phone, so assumed they meant the same thing. I appreciate the clarification. RE: Using a phone that has been jailbroken without a Sim card
If you have a sim card to insert long enough to set the phone up, you should be able to remove it after and it will essentially be an iPod Touch. You won't be able to use the actual phone features.
