Same as with ringtones except I believe a message alert tone has to be 5 seconds or less, you could just google this. Message allert tones can be longer than 5 seconds. There are a couple of contacts which I have a 20 second sound set for. It works just fine. Yes, you can make alert or message tones longer, I guess I wasn't too clear about this, but what I meant is that if you specifically want to make an alert tone to try and limit it to a maximum of 5 seconds because who wants to listen to a 20 or 25 second long alert that a text message or email just arrived.
