If you're running iOS 9 on an iPhone 5S or later, you might try installing an 
ad blocker, such as the free Adguard. This may help to speed up performance in 
Safari.

I use Safari as well. However, I prefer the simple interface that Firefox gives 
me. I have never been able to completely become totally accustomed to Safari 
probably because I don't use it any more than I have to. There have also been 
some web sites that were flash heavy and crashed my PC. However, Firefox on my 
iPhone handled them perfectly. Safari is great but sometimes I just want to get 
in, look at something, and get back out. Firefox allows me to do that.
 I really should take the time to master Safari for my own edification.

Well, I haven't started using Firefox on my iPhone yet, but Firefox is 
the browser I use on Windows, Android and Linux, so I need to try it out 
on my iPhone, so I can have my bookmarks, log ins, history, tabs and

You can try Chrome and Firefox, but I'm not sure they'll be faster than 
Apple's own browser. Chrome was my browser of choice for a while because 
of an annoying bug in Safari, which I can't recall anymore, but I've 
drifted back over to Safari since that bug was resolved a while ago. 
BTW, Safari will still be your default browser, so whenever you click on 
a link in a message, it'll come up in Safari.
