I'm not sure what message or thread you're replying to, but two things. First, there are ways a trial could be offered, and I think they've already been described on this list. They could offer a lite version, although I don't know how they'd cripple it to show off the features and yet still encourage people to pay for the full version. They could also offer a subscription for a few days or weeks instead of one year. They could use the same mechanism they have now for people to buy the one or three year subscription. Second, someone made the point on this list that offering a free trial would be stupid for Seeing Eye and would end up being a waste of money. This is a very different point than the fact that it may not be allowable within Apple's terms and conditions. Having a 30-day free subscription would be stupid in my opinion, since they would be doing a bunch of work for no return. The overhead for providing all these nonrenewable subscriptions is on the developer, not on apple, and Sendero is a small company. I think they will consider a paid shorter term subscription, but free is just a nonstarter. I don't think a 30 day trial would be stupid. First, there are people who just flat won't lay out the money if they can't take the app for a spin first. They'll be losing out on these sales without some kind of demo or free trial. Second, if someone takes advantage of the free trial and they like the program then they'll go ahead and sign up for a subscription. Finally, you have those people who don't end up liking or wanting the product. If these people are weeded out with a free trial then you'll avoid all of the bad press of people complaining that they laid out their money for something they didn't end up liking. IMHO, it seems to me that this is the only people where they'd be losing money, and I'm not sure the bad press is worth it or that you want to base your business model on getting people who don't end up liking the product to buy it in the first place. I also don't see how anyone could rip them off with this scenario. Sure, people could just keep creating new ID's and taking advantage of the 30 day free trial, but there are lots of other apps which follow this model and seem to be making money. I don't know their business model, and I can't tell them what to do, but I won't be buying this app until I can either try it out myself or I see some pretty convincing demos or reviews of the product. Hi Les, Unless it is not in the Canadian App Store you are apparently correct, it seems to be like when the Prizmo 2.0 update came out briefly and a few people were able to download it before it got pulled again for almost a week. A search for Seeing Eye yielded only one result called Test your Seeing Vision Sight Eyesight 5M. Somebody posted it was $140 for a 3-year subscription which means $46.67 a year or $3.89 a months. I do find that quite acceptable if it is comparible in features and feedback to MobileGeo or a Trekker Breeze. Many of the GPS apps you can subscribe to from various carriers are $5 or more a months, Netflix is $7.99 a month, many music subscriptions like Spotify are $10 a month and if I can get a truly good GPS app which replaces 2 or 3 other apps then I think less than $4 a months is OK. I found it. I am frustrated that there appears to be no demo mode. It is $69.00 for a one year subscription or $129.00 for 3. I do not know when it will be available in the UK. I took the app for a walk, without entering any route. It announced streets, and points of interest, as I approach them. Yes, the subscription is for all devices on the account, to include when you upgrade your phone. But you have to save the subscription, so it can be retrieved when you want to install on a new or second device. Apple does not allow for demo apps. They could do a light version which would have to have significant functionality crippled, which would not let people see how the app would really work. So blame Apple for the lack of a fully functioning demo, not Sendeo. I thought I remembered from the Keynote that in ios7, the app store will finally allow devs to put up fully functioning demos but maybe I'm wrong. Hi, Mary and all. Keep in mind that the developer would not have to put up a free demo. Just as they have a single year subscription, they could have a single month subscription or, if they wished to push it, a single day or hour. Personally, I would pay $3 or so to try it for a week, but there's no reason they couldn't have a subscription that was thirty days, free of charge, and simply expire it as they do with the year's subscription at the end of the period.
