Recorder suggestions

2012-06-15 Thread Carol Pearson
Hi everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions for a very simple but good recorder that can
transfer directly to DropBox. Although DropVox does the job very well, it
doesn't have a pause facility and this really annoys me, so I'm looking for
just the addition of the pause facility but not much more complicated. Any
suggestions would be most welcome

Re: Recorder suggestions

2012-06-15 Thread Eric Caron
Hello Fi,

List Recorder has many different recording formats to select from. I
use M4a but there is wav, and several others.

You can easily rename the recordings. You can also utilize a very strong
organizational structure.

The app is designed for the visually impaired so there are no accessibility
issues.

It can be used as a simple recorder but once you start using it I suspect a
user will want to use the advanced features.

Cool! Can I edit with it as well? Would be great to be able to chop bits of
rubbish off the start, or end, of files easily. You're supposed to be able
to do that with the memo recorder, but I've not managed to make that work.

Is there a time limit on files? Can I also E-mail them as attachments?

Thanks for the info.

Re: Recorder suggestions

2012-06-16 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Fonarak

In List Recorder Full version, the recording times do not have a limit. Only
your Device memory will limit the size.
Yes, List Recorder lets you send the recording by email as a attachment.

Currently List Recorder does not have editing functions. I say currently
because the app developer is constantly updating and improving the app. With
each new version large feature improvements happen.

And, the app is being strongly supported and user feature requests are being
worked on!

Re: Recorder suggestions

2012-06-16 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Anthony,

List Recorder settings allow for high quality recording up to CD quality. I
would expect your results would only be limited by the iPhone and other
hardware. . List Recorder is set up to allow stereo recording.
I suspect others could comment better on your question as I have only
used the recorder for spoken sounds.

Thanks very much for your informative response. Do you know of any
relatively simple apps that do allow basic cut and paste type editing,
please? I have Hokusai already, but it's a bit overkill for what I want to

Hi Fonarak

In List Recorder Full version, the recording times do not have a limit.
Only your Device memory will limit the size.
Yes, List Recorder lets you send the recording by email as a attachment.

Currently List Recorder does not have editing functions. I say currently
because the app developer is constantly updating and improving the app.
With each new version large feature improvements happen.

And, the app is being strongly supported and user feature requests are
being worked on!

I would expect your results would only be limited by the iPhone and other
hardware. . List Recorder is set up to allow stereo recording.

stereo recording (was Recorder suggestions)

2012-06-16 Thread Fonarak
Hi Anthony. Just be aware that you need something like a Tascam IM2 or a
Fostex AR4I to get the phone to record in stereo, as it only has a mono
microphone. They are both fantastic, but I really recommend the Fostex,
although it is a bit big, so it depends what your priorities are.

The Tascam is good because it will also work with an iPad. Also, the Fostex
will only work with the iPhone 4 and 4s, because it cradles the phone, or
iPod Touch. My Dad has an iPhone 3gs and we tried to fit it in, but it was
too big. Just mentioning this, as not sure which iPhone you have, plus might
be useful for others to know.

Not sure if earlier iPod Touches fit in the Fostex or not, as both mine are
quite new. Yes ... I said both!!!

List Recorder was RE: Recorder suggestions

2012-06-16 Thread Richard Turner
Hi,
You can transfer files back to your PC and bring them into iTunes.
I'm assuming you can then burn to CD, but I've not done that.
The high quality recordings sound very good. That was only with the earbud
microphone, so a better microphone, I suspect will get much better sound
yet.

Ootunes can do what it does because it is simply dumping the data stream it
is receiving over the Internet to a file. It isn't possible to record
directly from the iPhone's audio output, because the hardware isn't capable
of doing so.

Perhaps you should explain a bit more exactly what you want to do.
What source are you playing the music from that you then wish to record from
your iPhone?
You can't play music and record it on the same device unless you use a
streaming app like Ootunes or TuneIn, etc.

If you are streaming something that you wish to record, you will likely have
to use a patch cord and record what is coming out of the earphone jack into
a computer or another device.

Ootunes Recordings (was stereo recording (was Recorder suggestions))

2012-06-16 Thread Fonarak
Hi. On the subject of Ootunes, anyone know how to get those recordings, via
the PC, perhaps? Can I do it with Phone Disk or similar? If so, where will I
find the files, please? Someone wants a program I recorded the other day,
but I haven't worked out how to get it for them yet.

Thanks.

Ootunes can do what it does because it is simply dumping the data stream it
is receiving over the Internet to a file. It isn't possible to record
directly from the iPhone's audio output, because the hardware isn't capable
of doing so.

Hi FI;

I don't think this is the type of recording I had in mind.
Let me explain further.

The ootunes app records what it hears automatically.
I don't believe it uses a mic because the recording quality is too good.

In other words I would like to record music that is being played on my
iPhone 4S.

I hope my explanation was precise.

2012-06-17 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
Actually, this isn't exactly the case, at least on the mac. There's an app from
digidna called Disc Aid. I think they make it for windows too. There's a
checkbox under the advanced tab in the settings, it says something like show
apps even if sharing isn't enabled. Check that box, then you can get your
ootunes recordings. I was so happy when I got that app.
Hope this helps,

Hi Brett,

I think this is the link to the DiskAid program for retrieving recordings from
ooTunes that Courtney mentioned:
http://www.digidna.net/products/diskaid
For students, teachers, and personnel of accredited colleges and universities,
there is also a free DiskAid educational license program:

And yet another option is iPhone Backup Extractor, which will let you
browse your iPhone backups and extract files from there. Ootunes
recordings are backed up to iTunes, so you'll be able to get them from
there. :)

Ootunes can do what it does because it is simply dumping the data stream it
is receiving over the Internet to a file. It isn't possible to record

Hello Fi,

List Recorder has many different recording formats to select from.
I use M4a but there is wav, and several others.

You can easily rename the recordings. You can also utilize a very
strong organizational structure.

The app is designed for the visually impaired so there are no
accessibility issues.

It can be used as a simple recorder but once you start using it I
suspect a user will want to use the advanced features.

So, does it work in conjunction with ITunes or indedependently?

Hi Carol,
I've never tried the Windows version, since I only use a
mac, but the mac version works really really, I use it
almost every day. Courtney

I'd value any feedback from anyone who's already tried
it or gets round to it before I do!

Hi,
Actually, this isn't exactly the case, at least on the
mac. There's an app from digidna called Disc Aid. I
think they make it for windows too. There's a checkbox
under the advanced tab in the settings, it says
something like show apps even if sharing isn't enabled.
Check that box, then you can get your ootunes
recordings. I was so happy when I got that app.
Hope this helps,
Courtney
