Re: Sending messages with Siri I'm having a problem

2012-10-04 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hello,

I find I am often using Siri to start the text message and then I tap on the
message and it opens in the normal messaging app. Then I can use dictation to
finish it and send it.

Hope this makes sense,

Ioana

Personally I find it better to go into the messages app, press compose
and send a text that way using the dictate button on the keyboard.
Although sending texts with Siri interface does work. I have always felt
that Siri and Voice Over is clunky at best and so if I will be using
Siri a lot, I usually turn off Voice Over. This can still work out
nicely even if you are a totally blind person.

RE: Sending messages with Siri I'm having a problem

2012-09-28 Thread Rose Combs
Hmm, I have not had this problem using an iPhone 4S and Siri, my husband and
I and another friend and I have been sending messages back and forth, I am
the only one with the 4S and I use Siri most of the time except when I am at
work because I don't have a private office where I can talk to her. Only
once did she get all confused and I had to turn off the phone to get her
back on track. I hear the send sound when I tell her to send and a few
messages have been lengthy.

When his contract is up I think my husband will get the 5, he has my old 4
right now which still has Vokul on it but he refuses to use it.

I really like having Siri, I am fair at typing now, but being able to tell
her what to send usually works, although sometimes she just does not quite
get a word here and there and when that happens I generally shake the phone
and try a different way of expressing my message.

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. I discovered it a couple of

NOTE 3:
For me more often than not, the screen locks at this point, before I can

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

How did you know that the screen locked? I am completely blind and did not
hear a "screen locked" announcement.

Basically what happens is I get to the prompt where siri asks if she should
send and I say "send". More often than not not she says something like:

"you said "send". I did not understand send.

It is in fact like she forgot the previous conversation.

Wil definitely report this to apple.

Best,

2.
Initiate the Siri command and say something like, "Hi Mark. How is your
day? I hope you are well." Siri will respond with something like, "You
said, Hi Mark. How is your day? I hope you are well. I updated your
message. Ready to send it? Reply with cancel or send."

NOTE 3:
For me more often than not, the screen locks at this point, before I can
send the message. I have also experienced the scenario when, after
initiating Siri and saying, "Send," Siri will respond with something like,
"You said Send. Okay, I will send it for you," only to lock the screen,
losing the message before it can be sent.

I strongly encourage those of you who have or can reproduce this bug to
either send a message to Apple at accessibil...@apple.com or call their
accessibility hotline at: 877-204-3930.

Please feel free to use any part of this post.

Mark

Re: Sending messages with Siri I'm having a problem

2012-09-27 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

Thanks for the detailed explanation.
How did you know that the screen locked? I am completely blind and did not hear
a "screen locked" announcement.
Basically what happens is I get to the prompt where siri asks if she should
send and I say "send". More often than not not she says something like:
"you said "send". I did not understand send.
It is in fact like she forgot the previous conversation.

Wil definitely report this to apple.

Best,

Ioana

Hey Mark and others, just in the little bit I have played with Siri on my i5, I
have found if you speak text Mark Tayler… How are you doing today? I am doing
fine. Siri will then repeat the message and then just tell Siri to send, I
haven't had the problem with the screen locking before the message is sent.

If you send messages with Seri with voice over turned off, how do you know if
Seri is not making a mistake? How do you know that he/she has recognised your
dictation?

2012-09-27 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Raul,

Wow! That did it. I turned off VoiceOver before initiating the text
message and Siri worked like a charm. In fact, the entire process is
automated. There is no need to press the button to reply to Siri prompts.

Thank you for this workaround.

I've had better success in turning off voice over first and then using Siri
like a sighted person to send texts. So, if I really want to use her, I turn
off voice over, I press and hold home. When it beeps I say text blah and the
message. she responds with the message and if she should send it, I simply
say yes without having to tap the listen button and it gets sent.

Although i like Siri very much for many things, I can honestly say that
texting isn't one of them. But as I said, when I do, this is what works
better.

Re: Sending messages with Siri I'm having a problem

2012-09-27 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
I've had better success in turning off voice over first and then using
Siri like a sighted person to send texts. So, if I really want to use
her, I turn off voice over, I press and hold home. When it beeps I say
text blah and the message. she responds with the message and if she
should send it, I simply say yes without having to tap the listen button
and it gets sent.

Although i like Siri very much for many things, I can honestly say that
texting isn't one of them. But as I said, when I do, this is what works
better.

To those of you who may not know, When using Siri to send a text message,
the screen locks before completing the process. It does not matter how long
the auto-lock is set.

NOTE 1:
If the message is short enough, only one word, for instance, Siri may
successfully send the text message. It may also work the first time you
attempt to send a message after powering on the device. However, subsequent
attempts with messages containing more than 5 words or so, will time out
before the message can be sent.

To create the bug, do the following:

NOTE 2:
I use the center button on the included iPHone wired headset to interact
with Siri.

1.
Launch Siri and say something like, "Send a message to Mark Taylor." Siri
will reply with something like, "You said, send a message to Mark Taylor.
OK. I can send a message to Mark Taylor for you. What would you like it to
say?" At this point, a text message dialog box is displayed and Siri will
say something like, "To, Mark Taylor."

Okay, I will send it for you," only to lock the screen,
losing the message before it can be sent.

either send a message to Apple at accessibil...@apple.com or call their
accessibility hotline at: 877-204-3930.
