I know nothing about video editing, but this was part of an email about the new
Red iPhones and revamped iPad.
Other product launches Tuesday include a new app called
Clips,
that helps people combine video clips, photos and music that can be shared
through social media and messages.

Re: Simple video splicing

2017-03-21 Thread Kathy Brandt
Yes. From the iPhone photo app you can double tap on edit and trim the video by
flicking up or double tap and holding and sliding your finger either up or down
or left to right for trimming either the beginning or the end of the video to
eliminate what you don't want, then hitting the back button to delete the
original, and then, going to YouTube capture, hitting the right arrow button,
choosing the video you were working on in the Photos app which is now in the
YouTube catcher app, and combining it with the other videos that you might want
to make into a project, which are all in the YouTube catcher app from the
native photos app. And saving as new project either to upload to YouTube, or to
keep in your photos app.

Ah got you. So you just manually adjust the trim sliders till they match the
current play position and then trim. I was hoping there’d be a way of making a
trim slider jump to match the play position but hey-ho.

Thanks for all your help, Robin

If flicking up doesn't work, or down if you're trimming from the end, double
tap and hold on the trim button and slide up. It may take some fine-tuning to
get exactly to the current position; you can slide very gradually to the left

Thanks for that but I must be being a little dense here as I can’t see how to
set the trim point to the current play position. Can you poss advise?

Thanks, Robin

To the first question, yes on both counts: you can set the trim point in
accordance with where the current position is, or you can set the trim point
from the start if you're sure how much you want to trim off of the beginning,
or the end.

You are always asked something like do you want to save the original clip.

Thanks for that. I took a look and have a couple of questions. Are you able to
set the trim position to the current play position or do you have to take note
of the current place and then manipulate the trim beginning or end position
manually to the same place? Also when you tap Done do you get the chance to
save the newly edited video as a separate video or will it replace the original
one? I know you implied that you would get the chance to save it separately but
I hesitated on tapping Done just in case it replaced the original.

Thanks, Robin

Re: Simple video splicing

2017-03-19 Thread Kathy Brandt
You can do all that just in the Photos app. Can be a painstaking process, but
you select your video, double tap on edit, follow how current position is
going, flick up and sometimes slide for fine tuning where it says trim
beginning and trim and,. When you are done, you will be asked whether to save
as new clip, double tap on that. After new video is created, you double tap on
the back button in the top left corner, from which point you can delete the old
video. If you want to put a series of these edited clips together to make one
video, you can use YouTube Capture. It's free. Once set up, it has access to
everything in your photos app. Within YouTube capture, do you double tap
what's called the right arrow, then double tap on the first clip you want to
begin your video with, then double tap the add button, then double tap on add
existing clip, and proceed from there. Although the app is called YouTube
Capture, you wouldn't have to upload to YouTube if you didn't want to. After
you have completed your project, eventually it happens that what you have
created ends up in your photos library. YouTube capture is useful, even though
slow, if you're wanting to submit a video longer than fifth teen minutes to
YouTube, which anyway, you half to set up with The YouTube website. I use this
a lot for periscope streams that I have saved to my camera roll that I want to
put the best parts of on YouTube, and the same with videos I have recorded just
from using the Camera app.

Simple video splicing

2017-03-19 Thread Robin Christopherson
Dear all

We had a load of 8mm home videos that have been digitized into 90 minute long
videos that we now have in our iCloud Photos library. However 90mins is awfully
long and I’m hoping to be able to splice them up into the various scenes. I can
tell when the scene changes and so I think I could do it myself but I’m not
sure what the best method is to do it.

Can people suggest not only the best VO-friendly method (iOS or Mac) but one
that makes it easy to import back into the Photo library and won’t result in
massive files? Ideally not with pricey software too.

Thanks, Robin
