Re: The Seeing Eye app, a quick test.
No, you do not need a data connection to use MyWay Classic. It works strictly off the GPS. It does not use maps, instead you make the map by inserting points as you walk. I tried this app yesterday while walking to the barbershop through alleys and parking lots. It worked perfectly! Chuck (mobile) Pleez x cuze enny tie ping or spelin air ores. No, it doesn't have the record a route feature. How many years did it take the Braille Note apps to get that feature? And how much did you pay for those apps if you have them? Dan, no, you can't buy a lifetime subscription to the app. 3 years is the longest, which is actually pretty long, it seems to me, given what happens in the technology arena. Hi all, I took the Seeing Eye GPS app for a quick walk around my neighborhood to see how well it performed. I walked about one mile, and took a different route back. It worked well, although like most GPS apps it seemed to use a lot of battery, over twenty percent in the one mile walk. The interface of the app is simple and easy to understand. Entering an address is made easy because the state and city you are in are already entered, so only the address number and street need to be entered. If you are going to another city, however, you will need to change that field. I started by searching for a point of intrest and starting a route. The app uses voice over for most of the announcements, but does have another voice that chimes in occasionally. The directions were clear and given with ample lead time. As I approached intersections it would announce the street name and the intersection type, I. E. Fore way, and the street direction. Also, as I walked the app announced points of intrest as I passed by. On the way back, I tried the route to home option, which opened a drop down menu with various options including one that is poorly labeled. My wife told me it said multi modal, which voice over didn't understand, so I relabeled this button multi mode. Over all I think this is a great start, but there are a few things I'd like to see in the future. I'd like to see the ability to walk a virtual route, as I was able to do with my human ware Trekker.. After taxes the one year subscription cost over seventy five dollars. It sounds like a lot, but considering my old Trekker was fifteen hundred dollars seven years ago, it doesn't seem too expensive. If you figure it out, it comes to about twenty one cents a day for the one year subscription. And only about thirteen cents a day with the three year subscription, it seems reasonable to me. RE: The Seeing Eye app, a quick test.
At this point Seeing Eye GPS ddoes not support custom routes, but the MyWay Classic app allows you to create a route and set as many points as you want. You can then follow that route from start to end or vice versa. This app doesn't use street maps, so it works anywhere whether along streets or completely off the map grid. The upcoming LookTel "BreadCrums" app has similar functionality and I am not sure if it can do other stuff since it's not out yet. Psalm 19:8-11 -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Chuck Dean Sent: Tuesday, July 02, 2013 1:07 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: The Seeing Eye app, a quick test. No, that ability is not been included in this version. You may want to write the developers and suggest that it be included in future updates. Could you do this with BlindSquare? I was wondering the other day. Four instance, could I mark a favorite bench in a park or the water fountain or restroom facilities, etc. Eric On Jul 2, 2013, at 2:15 PM, Michael Malver wrote: Does it have the ability to record a route that I walk?
