Re: The annoying VoiceOver going silent bug

2012-09-20 Thread Wayne Merritt
I have noticed this VO stopping behavior since updating to iOS 6.
However, compared to what I've read from others and the few times that
it happened to me before, it is not happening for nearly as long. If
it goes silent, it is for a few seconds, verses much longer from some
reports I've read on this list before. It seems to happen in random
places. Over all though, VO seems more responsive and the phone more
snappy. I'm using an iPhone 4 and still seeing the increased
responsiveness.

Re: The annoying VoiceOver going silent bug

2012-09-20 Thread David Chittenden
Hello,

I doubt if they are connected. For many people, the HQ voice was removed during
upgrade. It is then redownloaded after the update is complete. My guess is this
happens if upgrading iOS requires more memory. Then again, it may happen to
everyone. I am not certain as I was asleep during parts of my upgrade, so my
iPhone waited a little while before I completed the process. It may have
downloaded my HQ voice during that time.

I have not been able to reproduce the temporary silence bug since my update,
and I am using the HQ voice on my iPhone 4.

Re: The annoying VoiceOver going silent bug

2012-09-20 Thread David Chittenden
Hello,

If VO goes silent for a few seconds, it is just brief intervals of very high
active (RAM) memory usage. This is not the same as the VO silent bug. I
occasionally get this behaviour, and I can cause it by very rapidly performing
intensive memory tasks. The problem will be worse on older equipment. I am
running an iPhone 4. I'm willing to bet the problem disappears when I upgrade
to an iPhone 5 which will have over double the RAM and four-times the processor
and processing speed.

I can cause similar behaviour in older computers by running modern software and
OS which require faster processing and more RAM.
