Update on Lightning Cable Purchase to Avoid This Accessory May Not Be Supported Message

2015-02-20 Thread Alan Lemly
Hello List,

I posted several days back about getting the error message "This accessory
may not be supported" when charging my iPhone 6 by plugging its lightning
cable into a 6-foot USB extension cable attached to my computer. It was
obvious that the USB extension cable caused the error because it did not
appear when plugging the lightning cable straight into a USB port.

I wanted a cable at least 6 feet or longer with a USB male connector on one
end and the Apple lightning connector on the other to provide an easily
accessed charging point since my mid-tower computer is on the floor. I
checked the Apple Store first but they charge just under $30 for a 6-foot
lightning cable and I thought that was too high.

After getting comments on this list, I purchased from Amazon the [Apple Mfi
Certified] / ZerolemonR Lightning to USB Data and Charge Cable/ 3m for
Iphone 6 (4.7) / Plus (5.5) /5s / 5c / 5, Ipad Air / Mini / Mini2 / Ipad Air
/ Ipad 4th Generation, Ipod 5th Generation, and Ipod Nano 7th Generation [2
Year Warranty] - White. Sorry for the long title but that's copied straight
from the Amazon website. This 3 meter ZeroLemon cable which is Apple Mfi
Certified is about 10 feet and has a 4.4 Amazon reviewers rating and a
2-year warranty. I'm very happy with its fit and finish as the cable is
thicker than the Apple-provided one and it charges my iPhone 6 quickly with
no recurrence of the this accessory may not be supported error message.
Here's a link to it at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M5JG8ZK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie
=UTF8
 &psc=1

It sells for $14.49 from the default vendor listed by Amazon but I ordered
mine from Bastexwireless who was one of the other suggested vendors and paid
$13.68 and got free shipping without having to have an order over $35. I can
highly recommend this cable.

Many thanks to Sieghard and others who posted guidance on my original
thread.

Alan Lemly

hi,
I would suggest get a new lightning cable. You can get it from apple, speeddots
or amazon.

Take care,

Re: "This Accessory May Not Be Supported" Message

2015-02-10 Thread Feliciano G
This typically happens when the cable is not certified by apple. Often,
non-certified cables will work for a short period of time and then this error
will come up. I have also noticed that this error comes up shortly before the
cable does not charge the device. I recommend the AmazonBasics lighting cables.
They are certified and a lot stronger than the Apple cables. You can purchase
3Ft or 6Ft cable lengths, the 6Ft cable is really nice.

Hi there,

I respectfully disagree with you. I have a brand new cable and I get this same
error. It may also mean simply that the phone does not like the cable even
though it may be correct. I have learned to get around it by shutting off the
phone when you plug it in.

Judy,

If your iPhone 5 is still under warranty with either the apple provided one or
through purchased AppleCare, apple will replace the lightning cable at no
charge.

"This Accessory May Not Be Supported" Message

2015-02-10 Thread Judy Holloway
Hello. I have an iPhone 5 with the latest IOS8 update. I am using the same
cable that came with the iPhone. For the last few weeks I have been getting
the message, "This accessory may not be supported" when I plug the phone
into the wall to charge it. It also happens when I connect the iPhone to the
USB port on my computer. The phone charges, and gives the percentage, but it
no longer says "Charging." Does this mean I need a new lightning cable?
Where is the best place to get one?

Thanks.

Judy
