RE: Updating To iOS 10.31

2017-04-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mike,

When you do a major update like this I would definitely say just making sure
you have an update and then to install can be risky.
There is not a lot you have to do, but the two things which may prevent any
potential issues are to make sure you close all apps from the app switcher and
as a minimum I would reboot the phone.
With a major update I usually go to Settings > General > Reset and tap on Reset
Network Settings. This will also result in a reboot, but keep in mind that it
will disconnect you from your WiFi so make sure you have your password handy.
If you named your phone, for example, "Mike's iPhone SE", a Reset Network
Settings will also get rid of that and your iPhone will simply be called
"iPhone". However, it is easy to fix this in Settings > General > About, the
first item is your phone's name and you can simply double tap on that and call
it anything you like.
This message may get a few replies from people who say that Apple does not say
you have to do this and doing this does absolutely nothing. Yes, Apple does not
say you have to do this, but I have had iOS devices for almost 8 years and I
don't recall ever having a major problem with an update. I have seen cases
where problems did occur and in some of these cases doing a Reset Network
Settings afterwards fixed the problem. Therefore, since it takes me all of a
minute or two to do this and reconnect to my WiFi, I do it. Of course when I
upgrade from one major iOS version to another I also usually do this via iTunes
just because I get more feedback during the update and think in some situations
an update via iTunes can be less problematic than an over-the-air update. Like
I said, in addition to having a backup at least close all apps from the app
switcher and reboot the phone.

Sieghard

I always plug into AC before starting an upgrade. So far I have done multiple
upgrades without problems.
