Re: Audible on the iPad and automatic playback after a phone call

2013-02-25 Thread Robin Frost
Hi,
I hope so because I truly miss that functionality which is why I took the time
to spend an hour of my life on the phone with my particular rep before I could
get him to understand that which I meant about them. I was so glad of heart
when he finally got it I think he might have thought me mad (laughs). And I’m
glad to hear that others have reported their unhappiness. Personally I don’t
see why they couldn’t have left the rewind and fast-forward buttons as they
were and simply made them like the delete buttons now are where their active
status or lack thereof is user defined. Either way I’d take the scrubbers if
only they worked. Why even have them there if they’re not functional.
Here’s hoping their functionality in some form returns soon as I do miss it.
And thanks for verifying it isn’t just me (big smile).
And again thanks for your thorough write up at the app’s launch as well.
Robin

Hi Robin,

No, you are not stupid, the scrubber control appears to work, but it actually
doesn’t. I talked to Audible support on the phone as well and the person I
spoke with said that even for a sighted user all of these controls and scrubber
bars have been removed.

I am surprised that they don’t offer additional functionality even for the iPad
where all that screen space is available. Oh well, I am almost sure that this
will change again since th support agent I spoke with told me she already had a
lot of calls from other people who were complaining about the lack of
navigational control.

Hi,

Speaking of fast-forward I know the button has been removed but it appears
there’s an adjustable scrubber type slider which will let you advance through
your currently playing book. However while I can interact with this control
when the book is paused it returns to its original position once I hit play
again. Is this a bug or an I just stupid and missing something?

I did report it to audible via email and phone support and the man on the phone
was able to reproduce it with me. He also indicated that there’s another
similar scrubber control when in the chapters and bookmarks screen if you tap
near the top of the screen that he thought might work better but I couldn’t
find any such element with voiceover.

Hi,

its all one big screen. The buttons are identical. There is no longer the

the last few versions of the app, the book would continue when I ended a in
coming call. This isn't new for me.

Audible on the iPad and automatic playback after a phone call

2013-02-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello iPad users,

Could anybody who has an iPad and who has used the new Audible app describe
a bit how the app looks on an iPad? I am curious as to whether some of the
stuff they took out of the iPhone app is still there on the iPad version of
the app which would make sense due to the larger screen area available. Does
Audible use a split screen layout as one would find in Settings or Mail or
is it all one big screen?

I also thought I mention that I discovered another awesome improvement of
the Audible app. It's in a way a small thing, but one that is extremely
practical and convenient. Every time I have received a phone call today my
book started playing again automatically after the call ended. This was the
case when I was playing via my Jambox as well as via my Sonos system using
Airplay.

I find this to be a very welcome improvement since with the old app playback
would of course pause when the call came in, but I always had to manually
resume playback again. When I am out and about using a Bluetooth headset
(which doesn't have the ability to do stuff like Play/Pause) or when I am at
home and maybe I'm cooking and use a Bluetooth speaker it is very nice that
now I don't have to touch my phone after a call and it will just continue to
play where it stopped when the call started.

Regards,

Sieghard
