Definitely Recent is super easy. I do that one too. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, May 3, 2020 12:24 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: can you put speed dial contacts on an iPhone There are many apps out there which also allow you to do this, but the original poster wondered if it is still possible to dial, for example, 1 on the dialpad and the phone would call whoever’s number you programmed on 1 as a speedial like on the old flip phones. I tried this type of dialing where you have an icon on the home screen which dials a particular contact way back in 2010 or 2011, but I personally just didn’t see a point in filling half my home screen with such quick dial icons and giving up that space for the apps I use most. I much prefer to either ask SIRI to dial or to double tap on the Phone icon, usually I have it open to my Recent Call list, but if who I want is in my Favourites list it’s easy to switch and if it’s a number I only dial infrequently it’s just as easy to find themin my contacts. If you are as used to your Favorites screen as I am, you can just about land on the one you want any time, that is if Favorites is not loaded. RE: can you put speed dial contacts on an iPhone
As I said, it’s been many years since I used any such programs and even then I only tried them and didn’t find it particularly useful since for me doing 2 double taps to get to my Favourites isn’t particular bothersome (one double tap to open the Phone app and a second double tap to put focus on the Favourites tab if it doesn’t have focus already). However, if you search the app store for “speed dial” you find many options, some free, some paid, some with good ratings and some not so good, some seem to have received fairly recent updates and others haven’t been updated in years. I have no time or interest to try out half a dozen to find out if one is better than another. RE: can you put speed dial contacts on an iPhone
Since Android phones support widgets on your home pages, I did use this feature to place icons to my most commonly used contacts on my home pages. I didn’t fill up half of my home screen though. I usually just dedicated one row of one home page for these icons. That isn’t as big a deal in Android as it is on the iPhone since you have so much more configurability over your home pages, such as how many rows and columns of icons you can have. That being said, I’m just using my favorites in the phone app on my iPhone, and I don’t miss having those contacts on my home pages all that much. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Gmail From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, May 3, 2020 11:24 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: can you put speed dial contacts on an iPhone There are many apps out there which also allow you to do this, but the original poster wondered if it is still possible to dial, for example, 1 on the dialpad and the phone would call whoever’s number you programmed on 1 as a speedial like on the old flip phones. I don’t use it myself, but most, if not all, Android smart phones support speed dialing. Once you associate a phone number with a digit then you just need to press and hold that digit on your phone pad to call that number. I could see this being a useful feature for someone, but like I said, I just use the favorites list myself. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) Chaltain at Gmail From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, May 3, 2020 10:55 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: can you put speed dial contacts on an iPhone The concept of speed dials where you can dial somebody’s number by simply pressing 1 through 9 or 1 through 0 is really something which doesn’t apply to a touchscreen phone where you would have to first open the Phone app and then potentially also tap on the Keypad tab to bring up the Keypad where, if it were possible, you could then dial 1, 2, 3 etc. and press “Call”. Re: can you put speed dial contacts on an iPhone
Hi, You might find using SIRI a quicker way to do this. You could add nick names or relationship info in the contact entries for those you want to quickly call. Then, just ask SIRI to "call Steve", "call Mom", or whomever. Dave Clement Winnipeg MB > On May 2, 2020, at 1:13 PM, Jennie Facer wrote: > I believe the closest thing to speed dial is favorites.
