getting used to iPad mini

2019-10-17 Thread Donald Raikes
Hi,

I have had an iPhone for about 5 years now. Recently I have been
"given" an iPad mini at work to use for testing and for a conference
presentation coming up in a couple of weeks. I have been spending
time trying to get used to the larger screen of the iPad.

One thing I have noticed is that when I am in settings for example,
when I double-tap on an item like accessibility that unlike the iPhone
where the entire screen changes, there is what I would consider a
popup window that shows the accessibility settings in it. However,
the position of this popup window is by no means consistent as far as
I can tell.

Is what I am experiencing normal, and is there any way to make things
more standardized and easier to use?

I have also noticed that it is more difficult for the iPad to accept
my gestures than the iPhone.

Any suggestions on how to make the iPad more user-friendly would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Donald

Re: getting used to iPad mini

2019-10-17 Thread Richard Turner
You might try locking the rotation in portrait mode. iPads like to present
things in columns.
You might have a better experience with portrait mode. I'm not sure.
I do know the thing that throws me is that in some apps, buttons that were at
the bottom of the screen on the iPhone are on the top with iPads.
Which generation of the mini is it?

I have it locked in portrait and it still works that way. Mine is an older IPad

I have a much better time with mine on portrait. The only time
that I use landscape is if I am using a braille app to write. I
was given an iPad mini 4 for my birthday from my brother at the

Re: getting used to iPad mini

2019-10-18 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi,

I prefer Landscape mode for an iPad, but of course, that's personal preference.
When you choose a setting, the left part of the screen remains unchanged. The
right half or sometimes 2/3 displays the settings in the category you selected.
The same thing happens in Mail, where the list of messages is on the left, and
the message you have selected is on the right. It happens in the Messages app
as well and is common in other apps. Think of the screen as having a vertical
line separating the left half from the right half.

I hope that's of some help.

Best,
Anna

Hi,

The way you discribe things is correct. For example, in the settings app, you
have the list of settings on the left side of the screen. When you select a
setting to Change, the options will be shown on the right of the screen. This
is called split view. HTH.
