RE: iCloud backups

2021-03-23 Thread Richard Turner
Yes.
Go into Settings, Double tap on your name at the top.
Flick right to iCloud and double tap.
Flick right a whole lot of times to iCloud backup and turn it off.

And, while you are in there, you can turn off any or all of the apps using
iCloud that you do not want syncing across devices.

RE: Question About iCloud, Backups and Photos

2020-07-22 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Ok, that changes things slightly.

I thought there was an option within dropbox to have photos automatically lsync
to the dropbox account / app on the phone.

Has this changed in recent years?

I have to admit I've not used dropbox in some time

RE: Question About iCloud, Backups and Photos

2020-07-22 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Do you pay for dropbox or just use the free version?

iCloud gives you 5 gig free and then as stated it's about a dollar per month
for 50 gig of space.

From memory I thought dropbox gave you only 2gig free

And iCloud is so seamless off the phone / apple dvice it's the better option.

I did turn off photos in iCloud and also turned the apps off that were using
iCloud that I didn't want to use right now. I did upload some photos to my
dropbox but I couldn't figure out how to get all the videos there that I wanted
to keep. Any suggestions about that, would be grately appreciated.

Re: Question About iCloud, Backups and Photos

2020-07-22 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Shirley,

You can get 50 GB of space on iCloud for a dollar a month, so that may be the
easiest option. Otherwise, you can turn off Photos in your iCloud settings.
That will stop them being stored in iCloud. There's also an iCloud Storage
setting that lets you see how much data different apps are using and lets you
see your backups.

Best,
Anna

Re: question on ICloud backups & ICloud Drive

2017-09-29 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Vicki,

The files you can see in iCloud Drive are things like documents you have saved
in Pages and Voice Dream Writer. There's no way to see iCloud backups or access
the data in those backups. If you go to Settings, choose iCloud, and then
choose Manage Storage, you can see which devices and apps' data are being
backed up, though.

Best,
Anna

question on ICloud backups & ICloud Drive

2017-09-29 Thread Vicki W.
I am using IOS 10.3.3 on my mini IPad II.

I have ICloud drive turned on. Shouldn't I be able to access it on the IPad to
see my files and backups, and if so, how?

Do I need to activate it in ITunes on the PC and will an icon show up on my
desktop and on my home screen on the IPAD?

Right now I can only access one backup in ICloud on the mini IPad to delete.

Thanks.

ICloud Backups

2017-05-28 Thread Vicki
To those of you with one or more devices backed up on ICloud, how are the
backups sorted out? Do you only see the ones for your particular device on that
device or does ICloud show you everything that is backed up for all your
devices at once?

Hi Marie,

On your phone do the following:
Go to Settings > iCloud > Storage (this will be followed by how much storage
you have left, e.g. Storage, 1.2 Gigabytes available, button.

Double tap on that.
On the next screen you have a "Storage" heading at the top. Swipe right once
and you will hear the total storage available, it will be 5 Gigabytes unless
you have bought more like the 50 Gigabytes plan.

Swipe right and you again hear how much is available.
Swipe right and you find the "Manage Storage" button, double tap on it
(after it is one more button which is "Change Storage Plan".
Now you have your back button at the top left and the heading "Manage
Storage". Underneath is the first item which is also a heading and it is
"Photos".

Here you will see how much storage is used up by iCloud Photo Library
Swipe right and you now move into the backups area, first it is just the
heading, swipe right aand there is another heading giving you the total
amount of storage used by all your devices.
Swipe right from there and you find backups which are labelled according
your device names. For example, for me it says:
Sieghard's iPhone 6S Plus (this iPhone) and this is followed by how much
storage that backup uses.

Sieghard's iPhone 5S, again it shows how much is used by that backup.
Keep in mind that by default all iPhones are just called "iPhone", you can
change that in Settings > General > About.
If you see backups here from older devices which you may no longer have, you
can double tap on them and then you find a delete button. If you aren't sure
or if your devices aren't properly labelled, you could simply delete all
backups, make sure you give your devices more descriptive names and then
back them up again.
Lastly, keep in mind that if you have do a "Reset Network Settings" it will
revert to the default name "iPhone" so if you called it "Marie's iPhone" or
"Marie's iPhone 5S" or whatever phone you have you have to go back to
Settings > General > About and change it again after the reset network
settings.

Sieghard

ICloud Backups

2016-04-06 Thread Marie
It seems to me that I once read on the list that there is a way to delete some
of the older backups from ICloud. I am getting warnings that I am running out
of storage and I really don’t want to use ICloud Drive. So if I could get rid
of some old backups, this should free up some space for me.
Thanks,
Marie

adventures with iCloud backups

Happy Thanksgiving to all,

I am trying to get an iCloud backup for my friend’s 4s; iCloud keeps asking me
to put in his password, and it keeps saying backup is incomplete.

What is going on; what settings should I look at?

Thanks.

contacts will be merged with iCloud; that is another way of just saying they
will be backed up, isn’t it?

Also he never upgraded past IOS 6 I think; how did you used to close apps in
the old app switcher?

Thanks.

RE: [Bulk] refresher on iCloud backups

2014-11-26 Thread Don Cher
Backing up contacts in iCloud changes how they are shown in Outlook. I think
that merging these has caused the outlook address book not to update when I
update the iCloud contacts... something I'm still trying to resolve.

Re: refresher on icloud backups

2014-11-26 Thread Christopher Chaltain
In the old App Switcher, I think you could double tap the home button to
bring up the App Switcher and then do a double tap and hold on any icon
to get into edit mode. Once in edit mode, a double tap will remove an
item from the App Switcher. I'm going off of my memory, so hopefully
this is right.

Question about iCloud backups

2014-04-03 Thread Tim Emmons
Hi guys. I am considering turning off my iCloud backup for my phone and
letting my wife continue to back hers up that way since she has pictures and
such that she wants to keep but that are taking up a goodly amount of space. I
can't afford to change our plan right now, so was thinking about turning off
backup to iCloud on my phone and backing up to my Mac using iTunes. If I turn
backup off, can I still sync my contacts via iCloud, and still use Downcast's
Sync function to sync across iCloud to have ll my podcasts synced to the Mac
ett. I wasn't sure, since I've not turned off backup like that before. Thanks
and was just curious. Thanks for any help. Take care and talk to you soon.

Re: Question about iCloud backups

2014-04-03 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Tim,

Contact syncing would still work, but I'm pretty sure Downcast file copying
wouldn't. I would suggest that rather than turning off iCloud backup, one of
you delete your iCloud account and create a new one using a different email
address. This can and probably should be an iCloud address, and you'll be
walked through the process of creating one. That way, you'll have 5 GB of your
own for backup and can have separate contacts, documents, notes, etc. from your
wife. You can still share an Apple ID for purchases from the iTunes store.

Best,
Anna

ICloud backups

2013-05-26 Thread Andrew Head
Hi all,
I am in the process of using ICloud and restoring my iphone 4 to use in a
couple of months when I go overseas. I checked the ICloud settings and it
appears everything is turned on to be backed up, accept notes and mail. Does
this mean my notes and mail won't be backed up to ICloud and I'll have to
manually set up my gmail and bigpond accounts again on the iphone 4? And I'm
guessing that is if I leave mail off. If I turn it on then all mail settings
and accounts will be backed up and able to be restored to iphone.
Also, after my settings were restored, the iphone said it would
automatically restore my apps. What if I don't want certain apps, what if I
just want the ICloud back up for my contacts, mail and settings, but only
want to put certain apps on my 4?
Thanks in advance,
Andrew

Re: ICloud backups

2013-05-26 Thread Chris H
Andrew if you turn on Notes and Mail you will be asked to set up an
icloud.com mail address. So no you can't backup notes and mail to iCloud
unless you have an icloud.com mail address.
