Re: question about activation for a new iPhone user

2012-05-03 Thread Brent Harding
I only hooked to Itunes, booting into OSX, to restore my backup because I
have an old version of Netflix before they messed with it, but I'm not sure
it still works because I often now don't find what I really want on there.
I'm thinking about downgrading to the disks even though they're a pain to
get audio out of, but most of what I want is disk only.

Subject: Re: question about activation for a new iPhone user

I got an iPhone a few weeks ago, and I have yet to bring up iTunes. I
got it activated at the AT&T store. Note that I couldn't just move the
CIM card over, since my previous phone had a full sized CIM card,
although I assume I could have cut it down or had someone do that for
me. I got an Apple ID by just using the iPhone.

I'm sure I'm missing out on something without using iTunes, but since
I'm running Ubuntu, I'm trying to avoid booting Windows just to run
iTunes and use my iPhone.

So my question on her behalf is, does she actually need to use itunes to
register it and activate it,
or could she just take the sim card from her old phone and put it in the
new iPhone and use it straight away without creating an apple ID or
registering the phone. She is getting the phone I think as new from a
shop.

Many thanks for any help,
