RE: question regarding the iCloud backup?

2013-04-02 Thread E V
Hello Marcy,

My backup reports that the last backup failed and lets me know that the last
backup was on February 6, 2013 at 12:51 AM. I am pretty frustrated with
this backup issue. Sieghard reported that there is a way to delete the
content of a previous backup, but the only delete that I see is delete the
account. Any additional light on this issue would be helpful. Also, if a
person installs the dropbox app, is one able to backup to the dropbox?

RE: question regarding the iCloud backup?

2013-04-02 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Must this be overnight local time, or if connected to power and locked, will it
work during daytime hours?

Is there an indication on the screen it is backing up so as to not disconnect
power and unlock in the middle of a back-up, regardless of time this is
happening?

Thanks. Keith

Re: question regarding the iCloud backup?

2013-04-02 Thread Marcy Weinberg
The time of day or night is not the issue, it is that it will only back up to
iCloud automatically once in any 24-hour period. I've never seen any indication
on the screen that the backup is taking place, though admittedly most of the
time It happens overnight while I am sleeping.

If you are backing up daily, then the Bakup shouldn't take too long anyway, so
it usually isn't an issue.

You can't back up to dropbox. What I suggest is that you go into
settings/iCloud/storage and backup. And turn iCloud backup off and then on

RE: question regarding the iCloud backup?

2013-04-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Keith,

As others pointed out already, there is no indication that you are currently
backing up. However, as DJ pointed out, there is a Backup Now button if
you go to Settings, iCloud, Storage and Backup and the Backup Now button is
the second last thing if you swipe right.

What you can do is just once force a backup by using the Backup Now button.
Maybe do this very late in the evening when you normally have your phone
plugged in. Then from that point on the backup will happen at that time or
close to that time provided you plug your phone in and it's connected to
WiFi.

You don't have to be plugged in to power if you force a backup using the
Backup Now button, but it won't do it automatically if you are not plugged
in. If you double tap bBackup Now you can check the progress of the backup,
it will tell you how man percent of the backup is done and give you an
approximate time remaining.

Regards,

Sieghard

Must this be overnight local time, or if connected to power and locked, will
it work during daytime hours?

Is there an indication on the screen it is backing up so as to not
disconnect power and unlock in the middle of a back-up, regardless of time
this is happening?

Thanks. Keith

RE: question regarding the iCloud backup?

2013-03-31 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Edward,

You get 5 Gb for free, but if your backup is too large it should tell you
there isn't enough space and not just that it failed. By the way, pictures
and music you bought on iTunes does not count towards the 5 Gb. One thing
that could make it too large are Audible books, if you choose to back up
Audible then it will attempt to back up your books, but since you can simply
re-download Audible books again from Audible there is no need to include
Audible in the iCloud backup. If the backup fails it could be a shaky WiFi
connection, but it's hard to tell.

Regards,

Sieghard

Re: question regarding the iCloud backup?

2013-03-31 Thread Garth Humphreys
I have 3 separate devices backed up to iCloud all in the same 5Gb standard
iCloud account. If you check under settingsiCloudManageStorage you will find
the size of your current backup and also if you have any other older backups
from different devices or incarnations of your current device.

If you've ensured the next backup is not going to be larger than the available
space and you are still having an error, you can try deleting the current
backup, and re-initiating the backup. Of course, prior to deleting the iCloud
backup, I would recommend that you connect to your computer and get a
up-to-date local backup. Also ensure your connected to wifi and a power source
before trying to backup through iCloud.
