What issues? I have the iPhone XR and after shutting it down I hold the side 
button for a count of 3 then let go and it starts right up.

neither phone do I have any issues with starting up the phone after a shutdown

If you are ever with a sighted person I'd get them to take a look as you do it 
because they can let you know when the Apple appears and what happens next. If 
there is an actual issue a trip to the Apple Store might be in order if you 
have one around.

Wow, now that's plain overkill, it would be like going to somebody's house and 
pushing the doorbell for 2 minutes if they don't come to the door right away.
It does seem to take a couple of seconds longer on the newer phones, but they 
also boot up a lot faster. If you push the power button and count to 4 as in 1 
1000, 2 1000, 3 1000 4 1000 it is long enough. I guess you could go to 5 if you 
want to be really sure, but I just did this on my iPhone 8 while my wife was 
watching and just after I was at 3 1000 she said she saw the Apple on the 
screen and then I counted to about 8 after that before Voiceover started. Just 
make sure you give it a good firm push, especially if you have a case since 
some cases require you to push a bit harder and after you count to 4 or 5 let

Yes, press the power button along with the volume up button from 3/5 seconds.

Adam, try holding the button down for 15 to 30 seconds. That should work.

Once I've turned off my phone I seem to have trouble starting it again.
I had to press the power button around 20 times (with varying amounts of 
how long it is pressed) before the phone restarted.
My sighted wife has a similar issue with her phone where she has to

Has anyone worked out a method of how long to hold the power button
