RE: voice-activated camera app for Iphone, Ipad and more.

2012-10-17 Thread Thom
Hi there, I'm not Kawal, but when I was sighted, I was a professional
photographer.
To get a subject in the picture, you want it to be at a 90 degree angle from
the face of the camera or phone.
Hold the phone with two hands, the left near the up volume button (that will
take the picture), and the right hand on the right side of the phone. Try
pointing, with your right index finger at what you'd like to line up with.
When it's aligned, click the top volume button to take the picture.

Here's a note.
What will fit into the frame, or viewfinder, is about the same amount of
distance you are away from the subject. To get just the face and shoulders,
you should be alright about 3 feet (an armslength) from the subject. If you
want their full body in the picture, you will have to back up as far away
from them, as they are tall. Then back up a little more to give you a little
more space around the subject. Now aim at the middle ( their belly), and you
should be ready to take the shot

If you atried to take a full length shot and aimed at their face, the face
would be in the middle, a lot of space above their head, and their legs
would be cut off about the knees.

If you leave yourself a little extra space on all sides, the picture can be
cropped after it's taken. Cropping is cutting out just the area that you
want to keep. .

I hope this helps,

Thom

Tom,
I was going to ask someone to give this kind of explanation, so thank you.
One more question though, are you pointing with the index finger near the
top of the phone, middle or what? I'm guessing you are pointing with it
near the top along side the camera, roughly the same height as the up
volume
is on the left side, but not sticking out so far that it becomes part of
the

shot?

Thanks,
Richard

Hi there, I'm not Kawal, but when I was sighted, I was a professional
photographer.
To get a subject in the picture, you want it to be at a 90 degree angle
from

the face of the camera or phone.
Hold the phone with two hands, the left near the up volume button (that
will

take the picture), and the right hand on the right side of the phone. Try
pointing, with your right index finger at what you'd like to line up with.
When it's aligned, click the top volume button to take the picture.

Here's a note.
What will fit into the frame, or viewfinder, is about the same amount of
distance you are away from the subject. To get just the face and
shoulders,
you should be alright about 3 feet (an armslength) from the subject. If
you

want their full body in the picture, you will have to back up as far away
from them, as they are tall. Then back up a little more to give you a
little
more space around the subject. Now aim at the middle ( their belly), and
you

should be ready to take the shot

If you atried to take a full length shot and aimed at their face, the face
would be in the middle, a lot of space above their head, and their legs
would be cut off about the knees.

If you leave yourself a little extra space on all sides, the picture can
be

cropped after it's taken. Cropping is cutting out just the area that you
want to keep. .

I hope this helps,

Thom

2012-10-17 Thread Rob Harris
I'm of the opinion that the 1touch camera and video apps are more use as
they work from startup, that is, when you double tap on them and they
start. and Then stop when you click the Home button; so all you do is
point, and you can do it so much more reliably and discretely than voice
command.
Good in situations where you don't want it obvious you're doing it; I shoot
low and got a road accident or traffic offence while on a bus, straight
out the front window of the bus I was on and aimed low and got the
registration and all. Took it home for evaluation whether to use it.

In short, I recommend this alternative.

it and stick to the 1Touch product as more reliable, simple too.

2012-10-17 Thread Thom
It really wouldn't matter what part of the right side you do this, as it is
done to helporient your to the right position of your subject. You can bend
your finger back toward the phone when you are ready to snap the shot.

Tom,
I was going to ask someone to give this kind of explanation, so thank you.
One more question though, are you pointing with the index finger near the
top of the phone, middle or what? I'm guessing you are pointing with it
near the top along side the camera, roughly the same height as the up volume
is on the left side, but not sticking out so far that it becomes part of the
shot?

Thanks,
Richard

Hi there, I'm not Kawal, but when I was sighted, I was a professional
photographer. To get a subject in the picture, you want it to be at a 90
degree angle from the face of the camera or phone. Hold the phone with two
hands, the left near the up volume button (that will take the picture), and
the right hand on the right side of the phone. Try pointing, with your right
index finger at what you'd like to line up with. When it's aligned, click
the top volume button to take the picture.

Thom

RE: voice-activated camera app for Iphone, Ipad and more.

2012-10-17 Thread Thom
To do a landscape shot::
Tuen the phone so that the volume up button can be pressed with your right
index finger. The lens will be to your lower right when taking the picture,
or the lower left if you are the subject of the picture.

A Landscape shot is best when you have something that is wider than it is
tall. This can include lamdscape scenic shots, someone laying down, a table,
or a large group of people.
*Tip:
When taking a picture in this mode have your index finger on the volume up
button and your thumb at the bottom edge. Squeeze with your thumb and index
finger instead of trying to just press with your index finger. It will keep
your phone a lot more stable.

they work from startup, that is, when you double tap on them and they

Re: voice-activated camera app for Iphone, Ipad and more.

2012-10-16 Thread Rob Harris
Pointing is a fairly intuative thing, i'm sure life-long totals can point
reasonable accurately if they try. Pointing with a device is slightly more
challenging, and the feedback loop is long, so not learned easily, but not
impossible by any stretch of the imagination. any level of sight below
being able to visuallyi dentify the target or more usefully, see the results
in any form by hwich to evaluate your efforts, is more or less the same for
all.

You have to show them to a sighted at some point, and they feedback how
your aim is. Once you got that right, you can take a snap with reasonable
confidence after that. We liked that 1shot app that starts taking pictures
as soon as it is launched and stops when you stop it with the home button.
So voice-activated could have mileage, and more usefully perhaps, the
ability to change commands to words that are not going to occur commonly in
a populated environment... wouldn't want the app running away with
anything and everything it hears. I wonder about time lag, remember that
Siri and some other voice activated things send the sound to remote servers
for analysis; so out and about could pose a time lag between command,
processing, communication both ways, and final execution... and does it
tell you hwen it's done?
This latter point might limit what you can do with it, and a good reason to
have the 1touch ap, too.

Then taking pictures should be easy. Just point and shoot. Then you photo
stream them and over Thanksgiving dinner you and the fam watch them. They take
the best and put them into a digital picture frame and now you're the talk of

Re: voice-activated camera app for Iphone, Ipad and more.

2012-10-16 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, the lack of vision can make taking pictures a bit challenging, but
it's not impossible. I've taught several of my clients how to take
pictures with their iPhones and some learned it, some didn't, but all
got a better understanding of how the process works.

So, if this is something you are interested in, just know that it can be
done.

Re: voice-activated camera app for Iphone, Ipad and more.

2012-10-16 Thread Paul Ferrara
But I'm guessing this app won't help with things like taking pictures of
checks for banking apps since the banking app and the talking camera app
cannot be open at the same time?

2012-10-16 Thread Alex Stone
Raul, I can also confirm this. My ex-father-in-law was a photographer, and
he taught me to take pictures which independent observers said were
reasonable.
Cheers
