vnc big source code
Hi everybody I am new to windows programming and vnc. I saw the vnc source code. It is huge. I am wondering why just capturing the desktop bitmaps, comparing with existing buffer and sending the difference with good compression algorithm doesnt work fast. For example sending 5 times in one second may be enough and possible. Why does it needs much code? Sorry if I am wrong. Thanks John - Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Client Rejected Error
We developed an application using VNC to run interactive UNIX programs from a web browser. About 8-10 weeks ago it was running great. We stopped using it to plunge into the documentation mire. Recently, when we tried to get some screen snapshots, we discovered that it was broken - VNC window crash ( VNC log is listed below ). CVS indicates that no code changes have been made since the last time it worked correctly. Old logs do not show an AUDIT line. The Apache log indicates that xset, xhost, etc. can not open the display. Reverting to VNC 3.3.4 does not change things. I suspect that a SysAdmin tightened up the security on something. Port 61289 is not valid for any thing that I know about and the port number changes each time. Note VNC still works when initiated from a UNIX command line and accessed via a browser. Research indicates that others have had similar problems but I can't locate any solution. Does anyone know what's causing this ? Bonno, The colour problem sounds rather odd. Which VNC Viewer are you using (platform, version, etc), to connect to the server? When you say "when coming out of the screen saver", are you connecting via VNC while the screen saver is running, or does this also happen when you have an existing VNC connection started before the screensaver started? [suse 8, KDE 3.1.3, vnc 4.0b4] clipboard woes...
Hi again, I have a SuSE 8 machine running 4.0b4 client in X 4.20 and KDE 3.1.3 (from KDE). The server is a windows 2000 pro machine with either server 3.3.7 as or 4.0(b4?). neither server version makes a difference, although 4.0b4 does go a LOT faster! This happens on a suse 9 x0vncserver 4.0b4 server as well.. The issue is that clipboard passing sometimes happens from the 2000 box to the suse box but not from the suse box to the 2000 box. what am i doing wrong? the settings for that functionality are turned on on both ends in the configuration. what was the syntax for the F8 menu item for "send local > remote" manually? Re: immediate disconnect using realVNC 3.3.7
Hi, Installed RealVNC4b4 on the mailserver. I can connect to the server even when the screensaver was active. Let's see if it stays that way. I did not install it next to v3.3.7 as I did not see where the 4b4 client asks for the port number. Of course I just now realised I should probably have entered that in the connection address like a standard ip:port address. ;-) However, I do have a color problem. When coming out of the screen saver all grey areas on the server are pink on the client. Disconnecting and reconning will solve it. I have to look if I can reproduce this at will. Major soltion: get write rights to the directory where the X11 locks and such are stored: /tmp/...X11... (a directory with X11 in the name, in /tmp). Ask your sysadmin, you will need it. I installed the vncswerver download from realvnc.com. When I run it it connect to dispaly :1 and not to :0 bevause Xsun is using :0. If I connect from the client, I can conenct to :1 but I don't have the decktop. I can not connet to :0. I don't know if there is a way to export the console (:0) from a Solaris box. I do know 3 ways to do so on linux but they need Xfree86 (where Solaris uses Xsun) or KDE (where Solaris uses CDE) or a framebuffer device (don't know if it is avialable and/or capable of doing some vnc). Hence my advice: start a vanilla vncserver session and both connect to that. If you need CDE, see the maillistarchive for details. By head, you can try `vncserver -query localhost` which provides a login box. Just do the login once more. You might need to add some options to have both access at the same time. See `Xvnc --help` for a list (and give them to `vncserver`). Now both access to this vnc session and off you go. Is there a solution to this problem. Run "VMWare Workstation 4" with VNC (Issue & Workaround)
The symptom: == I have set up a "ReaHat Linux release 7.3 (Valhalla)" machine with "VNC 3.3.7" and "VMware Workstation 4.0.5 build-6030" installed. All of them (VNC & VMware) are working properly when launch individually. Even when I launch VMware within a VNC, everything still seems OK. But when I power-on a virtual machine from that VMware, a warnning was popped with following message: "XFree86 DGA extension not present. Either your X Server is built without this extension, or it is not configured to use it. XFree86 direct graphics (DGA extension) initialization failed." When dismiss the dialog, the power-on action is suddenly stopped although the VMware windows still exist. The pathway: === At first, I thought it is a DGA limitation of Xvnc (VNC's virtual X server) and was very joyless for the searching result from Internet -- no solution. Then I aimlessly configurate and re-power-on the virtual machine again and again with grumble. And then the miracle occured. After dismiss servale hints from VMware, the virtual machine is booted successfully! But the great thing is not repeatable. Then, I noticed these messages on my terminal window from which the VMware is launched. "VMXFER: Attempt to send message VUIHintX while processing safe all LogSlaveSwitchFileStart VMXFER: Attempt to send message VUIPostX while processing safe all LogSlaveSwitchFileStart Panic loop" These messages were dumped ONLY when the power-on is failed. After some attempt, I got the conclusion. The solution: === The failure is caused by VMware's fancy hint feature not VNC's DGA limitaion. To solve the symptom is to close the hint feature of VMware, here is the path, Help | Hints | Hide All Hints Then the virtual machine can be repeatable booted. :) _ [EMAIL PROTECTED]<~O5M3!* MSN Hotmail!# http://www.hotmail.com ___ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
