I have a D-Link Wired router, so may be different in that respect, but I
went to the router software and logged in as admin.
Click on the Advanced tab.
The Virtual Server button on the left is open, or active.
Here, I configured a new server entry as follows:

Name: Any name you want
IP address: The IP of your machine.
Protocol TCP
Both in and out ports at 5900.

Be sure to click the enabled radio button at the top.
I set to always, or you can set a schedule.I only turn mine on when
needed.

Hope this helps some.

Couldn't add screen

2004-03-23 Thread Shyam Ramachandran
Hi,
I checked out the mailing list but I do not see any solution to my problem. I
installed VNCServer in my SPARC Solaris 2.8 platform. When I try to launch
Xvnc it gives me Fatal Server error, couldn't add screen error. I cannot find
a solution to this issue anywhere so far. It is a SPARC machine. So, I do not
believe in rebooting for RealVNC to work or should I?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

router config to work with VNC

2004-03-23 Thread Tom Knowlton
If anyone is online tonight, I could use some help.

I have the following setup:

Internet -> ActionTec Broadband DSL Gateway modem -> DLink wireless router -> LAN

Both the ActionTec and the DLink routers support port forwarding, which I have
specified as ports 5800 thru 5900 on the ActionTec and 5800 thru 5900 on the DLink
router as well.

When I go to www.gotomyvnc.com and check my IP for open ports.NONE are open.

Can someone help me?

Norton Internet security and VNC

2004-03-23 Thread E. Sprow
Hello,

We have been using vnc in our organization for over a month now; we also use
Norton Internet Security. I configured (or thought I did) NIS to allow
connections between vnc server/viewer. I can actually see them in the program
access list on NIS. BUT.we have to disable the NIS on the server end in
order to connect, despite configuring firewall access for this. WHY The
viewer can get out of NIS just fine, but no connections from viewers will be
accepted unless NIS is disabled.

Believe me, this IS added (server and viewer) to every machine running Norton.

Help please anyone!
thanks,
Elke

Heya. Answer is no: I coded the GoToMyVNC web-scan so that

Norton security and VNC - no help yet

2004-03-23 Thread E. Sprow
Hello,

I have searched the archives for the following problem:

when NIS is enabled, I can't get out with the viewer, period. I have already
configured NIS program control to allow vnc viewer to access the internet. I
have allowed monitoring of the necessary ports. No go. It just won't work
with NIS enabled.

Searching the archives didn't reveal any solutions, just the same problem over
and over again, with suggestions to just 'get rid of norton'. Not an option
here - sorry.

Now, does anyone simply know if vnc viewer will work with norton, or not?
Please do not tell me to doublecheck my work, this has been consuming me for a
while now and I am sure of the configuration of norton. There is no problem
connecting to the server machine with NIS enabled on that (host) machine, just
the viewer trying to get in from the remote machine needs NIS disabled. This
is just maddening.

Cheers!

I have NIS 2004 running on both my laptop and my desktop computer. I have VNC v4 on
the laptop talking to VNC 3.3.8 on the desktop (or 3.3.7 I'm not at home to check
right now). I am able to VNC the desktop with no problem. I've tried through a
router, and local connection, both have been successful. I did not have to make any
adjustments to get it working other than allowing the connection and setting up the
router forwarding. It just works. I have not tried to VNC the laptop from the
desktop yet, but one day!

This doesn't help you fix the problem, but at least you know it does work.

I can send you my settings when I have a chance to review them at home. New baby's
don't leave a lot of time for anything else!!

This is an issue.

It looks like Debian moves it to /etc/X11/Xsession.

Looking at the long file should give an indication of why your WM isn't
starting.

You will have to ask on a Debian list why they butcher VNC like this.
Combine this and the issue someone else reported with vncpasswd and I
think the Debain package is just plain broken.

I have a funny problem.
All the letters I type in the viewer come up as upper case in the
server. When I hold down the shift key they come up lower case. The
opposite of normal. The problem only affects letters. I have been
running VNC for six months without any problems until this started the

reference to this.

I run Real VNC server on Windows XP home and use Chicken of the VNC

I have a funny problem.
All the letters I type in the viewer come up as upper case in the
server. When I hold down the shift key they come up lower case. The
opposite of normal. The problem only affects letters. I have been
running VNC for six months without any problems until this started the
other day. It is probably a simple issue but I can't find any
reference to this.

I run Real VNC server on Windows XP home and use Chicken of the VNC
viewer on Mac OS 10.2.8

Thanks for your help

RE: VNCViewer closes after couple of seconds

2004-03-23 Thread Seak, Teng-Fong
What platform are you having in M2? In windows, check the idletimeout in
registry, otherwise, as I've repeated several times, the "easiest" method is to
uninstall VNC, erase VNC related data from registry and reinstall again.

ZlibHex isn't a standard part of the VNC protocol, so VNC Server 3.3.7 will
not produce ZlibHex data. The error you're seeing suggests that CotVNC is
getting confused into intepreting incoming data as ZlibHex, even though it's
not.

The most likely cause for things working locally but not remotely is that
CotVNC may be trying to switch to ZlibHex when it detects a slower network
connection.

Re: VNCViewer closes after couple of seconds

2004-03-23 Thread jsdey
Hi Michiel,

M1 in my case is a Compaq desktop (AMD 6000) with a monitor, M2 is a
Dell laptop with a monitor built in. I don't think the server is
crashing on M2 because I can
reconnect again and again. My problem seems to be coming from the
ZlibHex protocol. When searching the mailing list, I did see some
reported errors with ZlibHex
but I was unable to deduce a solution from the email that I have seen.

I've been trying to change some viewer settings, but with no result
(Server settings are the same on M1 and M2).

After trying several times to connect to M2, the server stops
responding
("Failed to Connect to server"), so I guess the server side software
has
crashed (The machines I try to access are obviously on a different
location, so I can't just walk there and check their state).

I'm using VNC Server 3.3.7 (Have tried with the viewers VNC Viewer
3.3.7,
VNC Viewer 4b4, TightVNC, UltraVNC with the same results)

ZlibHex Error

2004-03-23 Thread jsdey
Hi:

I have seen some reported difficulties with ZlibHex protocol or
whatever. I am not familiar with the frame buffering technology. Here
my problem:

I am using "Chicken of the VNC" V. 1.3.6 on a Mac G5. When I connect
to a WinXP machine on my local network using WinVNC V 3.3.7 server, the
system works perfectly.
However, the original purpose was to be able to run my mother WinXP
box. When I try to connect over the Internet (using the same version
of the server),
I see a black screen for a few seconds and then a error window appears
on my Mac that says "ZlibHex unknown subencoding error 300
encountered".

Any practical advise as to how to correct this situation wouldl be
greatly appreciated. Thanks.

RE: VNC to WinXP (was: )

2004-03-23 Thread James Weatherall
Blake,

Check that you haven't logged on as several different users simultaneously.
If you have (at any point since the machine booted), go to Task
Manager->Users and check the "ID" of the Active session. If it's not zero
then VNC 3.3.7 can't access it!

Well, VNC can do perfectly without .net. What should it do with .net? Is there

Not much, I think the starting of vncserver gave an error you missed.
