RE: VNC / XP Professional Question

2004-12-08 Thread Bradley Beaver
The only difference I've seen is using Terminal Services with Windows 2003
Server. More than one person can "use" the computer at a time, just like *nix
systems.

With MS Windows, you are controlling the local console. That's just the way
things work. Windows is designed to be used by a single user at a time.
'Course you can do other things, like print, share files, etc off that
machine at the same time, but only one person can be actively "using" the
PC. Unlike Unix/Linux (Solaris being a Unix-based O/S) which was designed to
let multiple people use it at one time.

Subject: VNC / XP Professional Question

Hi.

I've been using VNC with SPARC Solaris for quite
awhile
now and am very happy with it.

I recently added an XP Professional system to my home
network, which I'm accessing via VNC.

With the Solaris version, I could set-up different VNC
windows and have various people using different
windows
on the same computer at the same time.

With XP, it sees that I'm limited to one window, and
it
is controlling the monitor at the same time.

Is there a way around this, or is this just the way
it is?

What I'd like to do is have the monitor available for
another user, or just not refresh it as I control
the system via VNC (which seems to be running really
slow because of this).

Please feel free to point me to documentation... I did
some checking, but could've missed something.

Thanks,

RE: Sending Keyboard Commands using a Script or Batch File

2004-12-07 Thread Bradley Beaver
Thanks James. I'm off to look for a key macro program.

Any recommendations?

B.

Bradley,

The easiest way to do this would be to run vncviewer to connect to the
remote hosts, then run a separate key macro program to actually send the
keystrokes to vncviewer, which will pass them on to the remote host.

Thanks Tim. Looks like this is for *nix. I'm running WinXP here. I failed to
mention that.

Yes, rfbplaymacro can do this.

Sending Keyboard Commands using a Script or Batch File

2004-12-07 Thread Bradley Beaver
Hi. Is there a way to send keyboard commands to a computer using a script file
or batch file?

What's going on is I have just recently enabled Wake-On-LAN on all 300 of my
computers. I have a program the parses through a list of computer names
(actually MAC addresses) and turns on all the computers. Well, after that they
just sit at the Novell login screen. Now, all the computers have the same
admin account and there is no requirement for pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del before
logging in. I just need to be able to parse through a list of computer names
and send a username, (then a TAB command to goto the password box), then the
password. I'm not worried about encryption at this point, just want to know if
it is possible or if someone has done this. It sounds like it should work to
me.

Oh yeah, I'm using RealVNC 3.3.7

Thanks.

That would seem to be the case for the Windows version but this is on
Mac OS X.

Hi,

I'm running OSXVNC 1.31 on a G4 running OS X Panther. When a remote user
is inactive for about a minute they get disconnected. Can I change this
behavior?

Thanks

Re: RealVNC 4 beta

2003-12-16 Thread Bradley Beaver
3.3.7 has that feature. During a connection, click in the upper left hand corner to
get your menu. Save the connection there. After you save your first connection
Windows will be associated with the .vnc files. I have like 400 of them. I was even
able to add an action so when I right-click on the .vnc file I can connect in "View
Only". Pretty sweet.

>>> "Jasper Kimmel" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 12/16/03 02:43AM >>>
Hi there,

I'm new to these lists and hope that someone from RealVNC is looking in this
list?

I have been using RealVNC 4 beta 3 for a while but I stopped because the
option to scale the screen is gone. I'm using this functionality of version
3.3.7 a lot because I'm managing all kinds of different servers with
different kind of screen resolutions.

Another function that I'm missing is the ability to save a connection. I'm
using it to save the info of all the several servers to files and put them
in my taskbar as a shortcut. Maybe a suggestion for you is to make it
possible to link the file extension VNC to the viewer so just by double
clicking a VNC configuration file will result in connecting to the machine.

Will these functionalities be comming back in the official release of
RealVNC 4?

Regards,

Jasper

Re: Interactive Authorization

2003-12-15 Thread Bradley Beaver
I get the same thing at work. I've been called a "spy" on occasion. A feature like
that would be great. However, I do inform my users that the way to tell if someone is
connected is by the color of the System Tray icon. Would be nice if it prompted the
user ONLY if you were to take control NOT for view only.

>>> "Ifj. Bagi Miklss" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> 12/15/03 11:11AM >>>
Hello guys,

I've been using vnc for remote administerint for almost a year now and
realized that something is missing in the new versions :-)
There was a little window appear aking the user something like this: "Do you
want to allow xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx to administer?" Yes/No. You know VNC is a nice
thing, but users are afraid of IT. They're afraid because they keep thinking
that IT is the watchdog, IT watches every move they do. So they don't really
appreciate when we just open up a connection.

Is there any way to implement such feature as an optional thing for the
future?

Kind regards,
MBJr.

Re: Problems with VNC and USB mouse

2003-12-15 Thread Bradley Beaver
You probably have "View Only" enabled. Is it just a little "dot" cursor on the
screen? I use a USB wireless optical mouse and it works fine.

Hello,

When I open a remote connection to my windows XP the
mouse don't work, I can move it around the screen but
I can't click on any icon or button

I use an optical, wireless, USB mouse

Thanks in advance

View Only / Remote Control Prompt

2003-12-12 Thread Bradley Beaver
I'm a PC Support Specialist for about 400 computers. I just started upgrading all the
PCs here and I have been installing VNC as I go. I love this program. I have one
question though. I was wondering if there is a way to have VNC prompt for "View Only"
or "Remote Control"? Basically, I have had to create two .vnc files for each of my
VNC computers; one for View Only and one for Remote Control. Because sometimes I just
want to walk someone through a process and other times I do need to take control. It
doesn't have to be some fancy prompt. Just the only way I can do it now is by editing
the .vnc file. Thanks.
