Jurgen;

I think you have defined VNC to run as service. To start it manually, run
the Windows ControlPanel and in the Administation Tools select Services.
Select VNCServer from the list and change the startup mode from Automatic to
Manual.

I hope this can help you.

R: VNC viewer 3.3.7 for Windows shows no password prompt

2004-06-14 Thread Livio Curzola
Jan,

I do not have any experience with OSXvnc for Mac OS 10 but as far as Win32
VNCServer is concerned (version 4.0b4), there exists the option "No
Authentication or Encryption": whenever this option is checked there is no
request for password when a viewer tries to connect to the server. I think
you should look for something similar at your server side.

Hello,

Today I downloaded VNC viewer 3.3.7 for Windows and copied it to my C drive.
I made contact to my server which is OSXvnc for Mac OS 10. There I
made a password. But when I started the VNC viewer it didn't ask for
a password. So anybody who downloads the VNC viewer has access to my
computer. That's not what I want.
Can someone explain this to me/

R: Can 4b5 coexist with v3?

2004-05-24 Thread Livio Curzola
Andy,

VNCServer 4.0bx and 3.3.x can coexist on the same PC: the services will be
named differently (VNC Server Version 4 and VNC Server or something similar,
if I can remind exactly ).
Be sure the two services listen on different ports (e.g. 5900 and 5901):
otherwise the first service to start will lock the default (5900) port in
exclusive mode.

I'm looking to try 4b5 to get around the issue discussed in thread "winVNC

there are times when I need scaling client, which I understand is not worked

Oggetto: how to get rid of addresses?

Hello,

I am totaly new to this list, and I have a questions that might
have been asked before:

When I am opening a connection to the server, I have to provide
the address to the server in the window "Connections details".
The viewer remembers my entries, and if I connect to more then
one server, I can open a list of previously connected servers
to pick up one of them.

The question is: How can I empty the list of previously used
addresses in the window "Connections details", or how can I
delete one of these addresses in the window?

VNCServer version 4.0b4 has an option to specify IP addresses that will be

See

I am working on a project where I will need to remotely access several
machines around the U.S. for routine upgrades. Some of the users are very
security-conscious and would like to know when exactly I am accessing their

there a way that the remote servers can be notified that their machine is
being accessed by a viewer, and do they have the option to decline access?
If so, how? This is very important to my project. Thanks in advance.

Ciao Roberto;

" I tried and it did not work. I got the IP of every computer after the
connection to the internet using IPconfig/all and tried to connect, but
it did not work."

Did you ping one PC from the other and viceversa? If so, which error did you
get? Which is the VNC release? If it is 4.0 b4 have a look at the
application event log of the PC where you have installed VNCServer: it logs
each attempted connection from a viewer.

2004-04-28 Thread Livio Curzola
Dear Ken

Be sure that VNCServer is actually running and that there is only one
version of VNCServer which is running. I mean different versions of
VNCServer (e.g. 3.3.7 and 4.0b4) can coexist on one machine but the first
instance will allocate TCP Port 5900 whereas the others will listen on
different port numbers (5901, 5902 etc.). Be sure that VNC is actually
listening on port 5900!

which ports are used and along with their status.

Subject: R: VNCserver connecting problem

Dear Livio,
As of your advice, I have downloaded 4.0 b4, and installed to both
of my server and viewer, and then tried again.
Unfortunately, the situation seems not to be improved: I still have
an error of "unable connect to host: Connection refused (10061)"
instead of "Your connection has been rejected"(on version 3.3.3R7)
I have checked the event viewer application log, and what I have
found was:
"TcpListener on port 5800 failed (unable to bind listening socket)"
and
"TcpListener on port 5900 failed (unable to bind listening socket)"
What I am thinking is that this connecting problem is not caused
of VNC but of someother cause. Maybe these ports have been occupied
by someother application or whatever.I think I will check out the port
settings of my server(Win2000pro).

Do you have any clue? Please keep me advise.

Thanks, Livio.

Yes,this is exactly what I am trying to do.

My RAS(PC3) is not a PC, it is a dial-up router, so I cannot install VNC nor
any other application either.
I checked RAS settings and access log (not the event log) again, but they
seem OK to me.
*PC1 (server) and RAS are regularly connected.

As a matter of fact, I am using this PC1-PC2-RAS component for FTP purpose
as well (network drive file sharing and so on), but I do not have any
problem so far. I could even get the ping back to PC2 from PC1 via RAS.
Only the VNC connecting does not work; messages of "Your connection has been
rejected" or "Connection closed" that what I would get.
May be my VNC setting configulation is not good? or should try 3.3.7
as Seak said last time?
Any further idea you have, let me know, please.

Thanks.

Dear Ken,

If I understand your network configuration, you are trying to remote access
PC1 (192.168.0.2 - VNCServer) from PC2 (192.168.0.200 - VNCViewer) by means
of a dial - up ISDN connection set up on PC3 (192.168.0.1 - Remote Access
Server defined) aren't you?

If so, be sure RAS let you access all the PCs networked with PC3 and not
merely access PC3 itself. It seems to me that RAS configuration is
responsible of problems you are facing.
Try to install VNC Server on PC3 and access it from PC1: if everything is
fine check your RAS settings. Also, have a look at the event log on PC3 and
check whether some entry relates RAS and VNC.

Oggetto: VNCserver connecting problem

Hello,
I am new on VNC, and I need help.
In my LAN I have Win2000Pro as server which is connected to dial-up router
as Remote Access Server(NTTME/MN128SOHO-IB3) and then ISDN inbetween
the router and viewer(WinXP).
WinVNCVersion3.3.3R7 has been installed on both of server and viewer.
When I try to connect from viewer, for the first few times I have an error
message
"Your connection has been rejected." and afterward I can get the pop-up
window for
password input. However, even if the password is correct, it would end up
with an error
message "Connection closed."
(When the password is wrong, I would have a message "VNC authentication
failed!")
IP address is set for dial-up router(192.168.0.1), for
VNCserver(192.168.0.2),
for viewer(192.168.0.200)
Why it cannot be connected?
Does anyone have any idea for which part I should check?
Thank you.

It looks like you are providing the wrong password. Be sure you are not
mixing up lower and upper case letters (by saying this, I assume you are
making use of western keyboards on both your home and work PC. I do not know
to which extent this assumption is right in your case).
Also, be sure you do not have CAPS-Lock key down on your work PC.

RealVNC does not provide a file transfer facility. You should either make
use of an ftp server or try a VNC flavour that support file transfer, such
as UltraVNC (Windows only)

Non h possible effettuare trasferimenti di file tramite RealVNC. Dovresti
usare un server ftp oppure provare una variante del VNC che preveda la
possibilit` effettuare trasferimenti di file, ad esempio UltraVNC

R: NT Server refusing connection

2004-03-09 Thread Livio Curzola
Barrie,

which version of VNC Server are you running on your server? If you are
running VNC 4.0b4, have a look on the event log and see if VNC have logged
any error message like "Unable to set sockopt TCP_NODELAY".
If so, I am running into your same problem (except that my machine runs W2K
professional) and to solve it I had to rollback to VNCServer 3.3.7.
VncViewer seems not to have any role in this problem. It pops up independent
of VNCViewer release.
Also, on previous mails I have found someone suggesting to uninstall
ServicePack 6 on your server and go back to ServicePack 5.

I hope that this helps

James,

I apologize for my mistake. Unfortunately I am back to my original problem.
I have set VNC Server 4 to listen on port 5901: by trying a connection to it
(myipaddress:1) the viewer prompts the message "Server closed connection
unexpectedly". I have examined the event viewer of the problem PC and found
the following error messages:

R: Server closed connection unexpectedly

2004-01-30 Thread Livio Curzola

- Servermain: unable to set sockopt TCP_NODELAY: (10055)
- RegConfig: RegQueryInfoKey. The handle is invalid. (6)
- Threading: failed. RegConfig(a82480): RegNotifyChangeKeyvalue: The handle
is invalid. (6)

Even by trying to import 3.3 settings, any incoming connection returns the
first error message.
For a better understanding of the current configuration I include a jpeg
file with the registry settings under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Thanks for your support.

Livio,

By default, VNC 3.3.7 will attempt to run on port 5900. Similarly a default
install of VNC 4.0 will attempt to run on port 5900 under windows. You must
set the two versions to use different ports if you wish them to co-exist.
Even though VNC 4 was running, it was not actually accepting connections,
because it couldn't get port 59000, because that was already in use by VNC
3.3.7.

Cheers,

R: Server closed connection unexpectedly

2004-01-29 Thread Livio Curzola
James,

VNC server appears as started in the Services Control Panel. I am going to
describe the precise sequence of steps that led to the connection refused
message.

- Since the problem server is on a remote site, I have accessed to it
through VNC Server 3.3.7 and installed VNC Server 4.0b on it (a copy of the
installation program is on the server);
- The installation was successful: at this point both versions of VNC server
were running;
- At this point, I have stopped VNC Server 3.3.7: the connection was closed;
- I have tried to connect to the problem PC but I was prompted the
connection refused message: a guy on the remote site confirmed that VNC
Server 4 was running while VNC Server 3.3.7 was stopped.
- VNC Server 4 was uninstalled and connection re-established by means of VNC
3.3.7

Connection refused means that nothing is listening on that port on that

Livio,

Check that the Application Event Log on the problem server is not full - VNC
Server 4b4 for Windows will quit if it finds itself unable to log
connections properly, rather than risk having un-logged connections made to
a server.

Server closed connection unexpectedly

2004-01-28 Thread Livio Curzola
Hello to all.

I have just upgrade a VNC server, installed on a Windows NT4 Server
computer, from release 3.3.7 to release 4.0.b4. The problem I am facing is
that whenever I try to establish a new connection to this computer,
VNCViewer prompts the following error message: "Server closed connection
unexpectedly". At the same time the VNC Service on the remote machine stops.
The problem arise with both 3.3.7 and 4.0b4 versions of the viewer.
Other upgrades, on various Windows machines (NT 4 Workstation / NT 4 Server
( W2K Professional) do not show this same problem.
Does anybody have a workaround for it.

C++Builder app crashing when connected with VNCViewer

2002-10-16 Thread Livio Curzola

Hi

I use VNC to remote control an application written in C++Builder v 4. When I
move the mouse down to the taskbar of my remote PC (where my app is
running), the BCB app crashes with an EAccessError (AccessViolation eror). I
use Real VNC 3.3.4 on both client and server side.
I have posted such problem some weeks ago, before the latest release of VNC,
and was assured such problem should be fixed in this new release.
Is there any workaround to such problem or any setting that I should use to
avoid it?

Thanks

R: VNC crashes apps on server

2002-09-05 Thread Livio Curzola

Jake, thank you for your answer.

Could you suggest me a test case to catch the problem? I try to catch any
unhandled application exception on the OnExcept event of the application
itself but that event never fires: the application crashes without going
through it.
Moreover, I have experienced this problem only when I am remotely connected
to a PC running Windows NT Server: I have never seen it when I connect to a
Windows NT Workstation.

I have seen this problem in the past but have never found a workaround
myself. I don't have any Boreland development environment, otherwise I
would be willing to generate a test case and attempt to find the root of the
problem. I have a feeling it has something to do with the hooks vnc
installs to get updates. If we knew what exactly was causing it we could
probably find a workaround.

Hi!

I am using win-vnc server (3.3.2 R9) on a NT 4 Server SP6. An application
written with C++ Builder 4 crashes after I am connected via VNC from an NT4
Workstation.
I've browsed through the mail archives and found out that this is known
problem for apps written with Borland tools, mainly Delphi. Nonetheless I
was not able to find out any mail describing a fix.
Has anyone else met with this problem recently? And can anyone tell me about
a feasible solution?
