Re: unable to resolve host by name: (11001)

2005-11-22 Thread Steffen Römmler
Hello,

first thanks.
The batch-file says: C:\Progs\RealVNC\vncviewer connect ip(it4s a
static) -shared.
The connection fits. I get the server. But there ist this 11001 . I cannot
do anything to
solve the problem? Can the provider do anything?

Regards
Steffen

Steffen,

You will not receive unable to resolve host by name after having entered
a
username/password, but beforehand. The error indicates that the viewer was
unable to lookup the IP address corresponding to the specified hostname,
and
so was unable to connect. This normally suggests a DNS-configuration
issue.

Regards,

Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.

Subject: unable to resolve host by name: (11001)

 Hello,

according to a connection between an MS Win98SE with vnc
 4-client and an MS 2k
with vnc-server v.4 over WAN. The connection can be
 established. The prompt
appears for filling in the password. But there is a notice
 unable to resolve
host by name: (11001). What does this mean? Clicking it away
 with ok there
 is no problem further.

 Steffen

VNC password can not be stored securely

2005-01-22 Thread Steffen Römmler
When I try to enter a password I get the message:
VNC Config: Warning
Please note that your VNC password can not be stored securely
on this system.
Are you sure you wish to continue?
Know somebody what I can do?

Enter a paassword! Or registry, see vnc, set new dword AuthRequired, value
0.Then vnc will no farther remember to set a passwort.

silent mode?

2005-01-09 Thread Steffen Römmler
What exactly means silent mode?

The TightVNC installer can work in silent mode and not ask questions during
installation (but it's possible that it might show message boxes if there
are any errors). In this mode TightVNC will be installed into the default
directory, that is, the TightVNC subdirectory in the Program Files). Here is
the command line to install TightVNC in silent mode:

tightvnc-1.2.9-setup.exe /sp- /verysilent

  Hi there,

One thing that occurred to me, reading some of the replies to your
question,
is that some companies don't *actually* allow traffic out to the Internet.
Instead, all HTTP/HTTPS/FTP, etc passes through an internal proxy server -
they don't allow any internal machines to connect directly to the outside
  world at all.

Could this be your problem? If so then there are some tools you can use to
get things working through the web proxy.

  Regards,

  Wez @ RealVNC Ltd.

   correct i think

i have vnc running on a windows 2003 server on my home
network. the internal ip address of this box at home is
192.168.1.10. i did a standard install of the latest
download of vnc server so it's listening on port 5900 while
the java http server is listening on port 5800. i have the
windows firewall enabled on this network card and am allowing
   the following ports through (21/tcp, 80/tcp, 5800/tcp/udp,
5900/tcp/udp. i have gone into my linsys firewall/router and
have forwarded this exact list of ports to 192.168.1.10.

now, from work i can open up IE and hit the website on
192.168.1.10. i just browse to my public ip address and the
firewall/router forwards the port 80 traffic over to
   192.168.1.10. works great.

also from work i can pull up a command prompt and ftp to my
ftp server on 192.168.1.10. the firewall/router forwards the
port 21 traffic over to 192.168.1.10. works great. i put
a 160Mb file onto the ftp server from work and it worked great.

now, when i try to access vnc, i get an error. it just hangs
for a minute and then i get unable to connect to host:
Connection timed out (10060). the java web client doesn't
work either. i know the server's up and running b/c i can
web/ftp to it. i know my router/firewall can forward ports
b/c it's doing it with the port 80 and port 21 traffic. i
know vnc works b/c i can get to it both through the standard
client and the web client when i am within my home network
(192.168.1.x). is there something else i have to enable on
my router/firewall besides just simple port forwarding?

i have a pretty good grasp of the basics here and as far as i
   can tell everything's setup properly.

what kind of memory is meant, the frame buffer of the graphic card or its
RAM, or the RAM in general?
If you are connected with a pc an using on it a lot of applications and now
you move windows --- can it happen that the remote pc will hang up ?

vnc registry

2004-10-05 Thread Steffen Römmler
Hello,

sorry, last Friday I sent this question

I would like to know, if there is a possibility to allow/disallow viewer to
create new connections. Also I would be glad to hear, that there is a
registry key to allow/disallow the server Disconnect All Clients. I ask
mainly for v3.3.7 but also for v4 als well as TightVNC.

I did not see an answer. Is nobody interested in this case? Did I ask
something stupid? Something forbidden? I don4t want to do something wrong! I
mean on the website vnc there are several tipps for tuning vnc within the
registry. Sorry for my perfect english :)

Thanks for interesting.
