[vox-tech] php/GD problems (sorry for duplicate post)
hi- i am running debian/stable with the default install of PHP and GD version 2... i notice that when i run the phpinfo() function i see that there is an entry : --with-gd=shared,/usr this would lead me to believe that it would be possible to use the GD image creation functions with php... however trying to use imagecreate() results in an undefined function error. i know that i have the GD libs installed, but how can i make PHP use them? any ideas? thanks in advance Dylan PS: i should mention that i am looking for some ways of messing with limited RGB - HVC color space conversion...namely the limited earth tones that are used in soil classification. php might not be the best way to do this... ___ vox-tech mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.lugod.org/mailman/listinfo/vox-tech
[vox-tech] GPG Symmetric Encryption - Noninteractively
Hi All, Can I do symmetric encryption non-interactively using gpg? gpg -batch -ca doesn't seem to work as the key cannot be provided in some file or command line. Tried writing a expect script, #!/usr/bin/expect -d -f # set timeout -1 set send_slow {1 .1} set send_human {.1 .3 1 .05 2} spawn gpg -q -o message.enc -ca message match_max 10 expect -exact "Enter passphrase: " send -- "ab\r" expect -exact "\r \rRepeat passphrase: " send -- "ab\r" expect eof This script works sometimes, hangs mostly after first/second passphrase has been sent. Tried "send -s/h" but they also fail. What's wrong? Am I missing something? Also if the expect script can read the input from stdin and write encrypted output to stdout, it would be great. Any help/suggestion is appreciated. Thanks, Anshul ___ vox-tech mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://lists.lugod.org/mailman/listinfo/vox-tech
Re: [vox-tech] SBC Modem Compatibility
I have sonic.net DSL, which goes through SBC before the connections get to my home. (one phone company to rule them all phone lines...) I also got a D-Link router. All works great, except I think there's some bug in the D-Link router so I had to set the MTU manually to a lower number. No problems otherwise. -Mark On Tue, 13 Apr 2004, Robert G. Re: [vox-tech] SBC Modem Compatibility
I don't know if anybody is maintaining the LUGOD FAQ, but I believe I wrote a section on broadband. If any of it is out of date, it should be corrected. Anyone want to take over maintenance? Note that an SBC strike might also affect work orders placed by Omsoft et al. The actual switch recent changes are done by the company that owns the physical equipment. I believe that resellers like Omsoft still need to place orders which eventually find their way to central offices and frame locations run by SBC employees. So whether you still plan on going with SBC or not, you'll still want to heed Rod's advice. Dunno but I strongly suggest you use omsoft, dslextreme.com or sonic.net instead of SBC. That way you can get a static IP (and no PPPoE) at a reasonable price, and decent tech support. I'm getting ready to order SBC DSL, and I'm planning on networking a router with two computers to share the SBC connection. I've heard from two sources that the DSL modems that SBC now use have compatibililty problems with lots of equipment that is not purchased from SBC. I've heard SBC's older modems were more compatible. SBC technical support, however, says there are no compatibility problems with its modems. I dunno if apt will destroy/overwrite files. I use rpm, which has it's pitfalls, but _usually_ doesn't overwrite stuff unless you explicitly tell it to. With that said, I know that rpm usually sets aside stuff that you over-write with a .rpmsave extension... I think in a few cases, the KDE folks have moved some files from one package to another. Inthis case, they moved this .desktopfile from koffice 1.2.1 into kdelibs 3.2.1. (I /think/) If you had KOffice installed before trying to upgrade, it might be useful to try uninstalling it, and then doing the apt-get upgrade (so you get the new kdelibs installed). Then, later on, see if (a presumably newer) KOffice will install once that's done. > [EMAIL PROTECTED] bruce]# > > When I try to run mozilla or firefox I get: > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] mozilla-1.4]$ ./mozilla > ./mozilla-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-1.2.so.0: > cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory > > [EMAIL PROTECTED] firefox]$ ./firefox > ./firefox-bin: error while loading shared libraries: > libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or > directory > > Obviously these libraries used to be there. Why would kde remove them? I think it's a matter of them being in the midst of an upgrade. APT has left your system in an unhappy state. :^/ I'm hoping that someone familiar with APT on RedHat, and KDE + Gnome on such a system, is somewhere on this list, and will speak up. ;^) > If I try to run "apt-get install gtk+" to load the gtk libraries, I get > a bunch of dependancy errors as well. I thought apt was supposed to > eliminate the dependancy hell, but obviously not. RPM is kind of like a fully loaded gun you play Russian Roulette with. APT is a length of rope, long enough for hanging, if you set it up right. ;^) Hehe, okay, so I'm exaggerating. What really can become an issue is if you start mixing apt repositories. It can be very helpful, but it can definitely screw you up, depending on what's in the repositories. Fortunately, I've had success 'rolling back' a system (e.g., an upgrade to KDE 3.2.0 broke my kiosk config for an unknown reason, so I was able to pull it back to 3.1.5; still need to look into that :^/ ) Good luck! alright, i'll restate: put win2k on there and get the machine patched up to the best of your knowledge/ability. i never trusted the service packs, autoupdates, etc. in the past, but at one point it just got too cumbersome to stay up on their safety, effectiveness, etc. the only windows machine i use is an xp box at work, but i have to admit i'm lazy about the auto-update, so i just let it run nowadays. same goes for the similar feature built into os x as well...i just trust apple out of laziness, knowing my data is backed up decently well. my linux boxes on the other hand are slackware machines - no auto-updating there at all, so everything is hand patched to the best of my ability. i've muddled with slapt, but i don't really like it or trust it. it seems apt users have to put a lot of trust in whoever maintains the package lists on their apt server(s) of choice. is this correct? i have limited debian use, but i've muddled with apt-rpm on a fedora box quite a bit and it seems pretty solid. how often does an apt-get update/upgrade break things?
