I have followed your instruction, but I got an error on "Save & Run"
==
configure: error: *** you need to have the Linux kernel source installed

==

I have installed Linux source on /usr/src. I think it is looking for Kernel
headers, I was searching for kernel headers in mail archive, but nothing
helps ( sym-linking /lib/modules etc.. etc.. )

Please help

Re: [Voyage-linux] SSDs, CFs and write endurance

2009-04-15 Thread Jeff Ramin

I've done some more research - it seems there is a difference
in the physical medium. Do a search for "slc mlc flash", and you
should see some docs that describe the difference.

I am currently of the opinion that a current SLC CF card,
assuming the onboard controller is capable of EEC and wear
leveling, can be used for a read-write file system.

For many applications, I think the cheaper MLC CF variety
could even be used in such an environment, although they
would be somewhat less reliable.

Is there any difference in the underlying physical medium between
a solid state disk and a compact flash card? If not, why is it "bad"
to mount CFs as read-write, when that's how SSDs are used day in
and day out?

I'm seriously considering using the CF on an ALIX board as a
standard read-write disk. I've read many articles and posts that this
is a bad idea, but with the latest CF cards out today, is that still
true?

Here's an article on the subject. Comments?

Thanks.

Re: [Voyage-linux] lirc_serial on voyage

2009-04-15 Thread Juha Lindfors
I've compiled LIRC on Voyage, although not the lirc_serial module (a
different one instead).

In case it is helpful, the instructions are here:
http://www.openremote.org/display/orb/OpenRemote+Reference+Implementation+-+Software+Installation+Instructions#OpenRemoteReferenceImplementation-SoftwareInstallationInstructions-InstallLIRC

For the CommandIR USB module, the process was pretty straight forward.
lirc_serial may have a different set of dependencies, etc though.

This article is only talking about SSD drives, you need a lot more
background info. To be honest I am getting confused and storage is
something I use track pretty closely.

Here is a more interesting article that deals *solely* with SSDs:
