[Voyage-linux] Problem to make a backup from CF-Card

2010-08-19 Thread Pfau, Jens (SMT GmbH)
Hallo,

i have a problem when i make a image from a cf card with voyage linux.

I make the image with dd Command after rewrite the image to another cf card
the system will not boot.
After the bios screen there are only the word "Grub" on the screen.

What´s the problem?

Thank you

[Voyage-linux] Using the FS

2010-08-19 Thread Robert
Hello Guys,

I hope you are all well. It's been quite some time since I've done any work
with Voyage but I now have a new project which it'll suit perfectly.

I see we're now running a stable release of 0.6.5 which appears to have a bunch
of changes to the way the FS is handled.

The application in question writes to a few files which will need to be
maintained on the disk in the event of a reboot / power-loss.

What is the best way to achieve this?

Thanks,

Robert

 Hi Robert,

My suggestion would be looking into /etc/init.d/voyage-sync and
/etc/default/voyage-util

to clarify:
boot using original CF works,
copied CF doesnt, on same box ?

bad blocks ?
did you use /dev/sdb1 in either src or dest ?
(show your dd command ?)
it seems mbr got copied, and grub is starting,
but it cant find config or later stages 1.5, 2

no grub prompt ? (try hitting return)

FWIW, I think the problem (with booting iso directly via memdisk on the
soekris)
is that the syslinux.cfg doesnt have a 'SERIAL ' directive.
thus I cant see whats going on.

Its debatable whether it should - writing boot stuff to whatever
might be connected to serial port could be troublesome.

scanning the subnet which laptop dhcpd would be serving to it
doesnt show any open ports, I didnt look

its unlikely to make a diff for you, but

is there a specific reason youve added "manual"
or the up down directives ?

if you drop them, you should get default behavior,
which generally works.

this should be true for all interfaces, including snipped ones.

Hi Robert,
I had a similar problem. What I did is to make a script that syncs the tmp

data is erased (that was enough for my application)
