https://gerrit.fd.io/r/#/c/13769 is functionally correct, and that the proposed
change isn’t a performance disaster on aarch64?

Thanks... Dave

Dear Damjan,

Is the 30% faster because of using different applications or something else?

Thank you,
Tina

Hi, I improved the patch Natalie submitted, and pushed it for review on gerrit:

There was a small change in dpdk/device/init.c - I needed to set
ignore_offload_bitfield manually, don't know what
changed since I last tested it, but it did not work without it.

I also added stuff for mrvl_pmd in dpdk/Makefile.

And fixed the hard coded linker flag to some kind of autotools magic (hope I
done it right).

Everything was tested on VPP from today morning (not IPsec though).

Szymon

Fine if this is going to stay out of vpp repo, as it is duplicate functionality
and also it will make dpdk plugin more messy due to external dependencies on
musdk.
Will be better to do that work with some NIC which have native DPDK drivers,
not wrapper like in musdk case...

Dear Natalie,
What is the point of using DPDK marvel driver (which is actually just a wrapper

2.Regarding the L3FWD performance difference between MUSDK and
DPDK, currently we don’t have numbers with VPP L3FW.
We only have the numbers with two different applications. One is
our own L3FW application running on top of MUSDK and other is a

All,

I am happy to announce that VPP 18.04 has been released! The release notes can
be found athttps://docs.fd.io/vpp/18.04/release_notes_1804.html.

The various release artifacts have made their way to the right places on
nexus.fd.io.

Packaging for Centos 7 (Intel), openSUSE Leap 42.3 (Intel), Ubuntu Xenial
(Intel) and Ubuntu Xenial (ARM) are available. Details on how to install them
are available
athttps://wiki.fd.io/view/VPP/Installing_VPP_binaries_from_packages.

Packages for the Intel platforms have been tested; I will follow up with ARM
package testing once I get my arm64 box setup!

Our thanks to all of the VPP and FD.io community who have
contributed to the 18.04 VPP release.

Cheers,
Chris.

Many other questions about this gerrit..most I will include on the gerrit but…

Without vratko working on the repo manifests those will still be incorrect is

This seems to lock to master branch only…you dont want/need ability to test

Not using ‘standard’ REPO_NAME also locks you into xenial which means this will
be one more thing we need to revisit when we do bionic swing

until im told otherwise opensuse is a ‘full citizen’ so please take that into

I tested locally and looks like it is ok. But need to properly review.

Dont get me wrong..im behind vratko’s thinking about doing the restructure…just
didnt want to rush that in..(unless that fix is more simple than it appears)
but wanted
to get you working again right away.

There is no point in just deleting the arm packages since they would just get
repopulated quickly

although I am still thinking about other options to explore..

I think that long term solution is more than welcomed. Looking on this not only
thru optics of CSIT but anyonw who will look on Nexus and would wonder why
RELEASE is only arm64.

Any views who is maintaining nexus storage from configuration point of view?

vratko: responding to the thread but NOT to your email.. im going to assume
your correct that it is abusing the version field
and that nexus could/should be doing something different..and what your saying
about version timing makes sense since the arm64
flavor certainly came long after the amd64 was build and pushed to nexus.

BUT..just as a datapoint and possible short term workaround

If csit would just use apt-get download vpp-dpdk-dkms it appears (even with the
current config/misconfig ) to pull the correct deb
depending on your source arch. not sure if this could be a short term
fix/workaround/replacement to your curl command.

Several of you have already heard the very sad news of the passing of our dear
friend and colleague Venky. He was "Mr. DPDK" to many, a nod to his invention
and creation of DPDK about ten years ago (before it was called DPDK.) Of
course his footprints across the industry and literally across the globe are
everywhere. If you know what ATCA is, well, Venky had his hands and inventions
deeply into the creation of that PICMG spec and many of the first revision
products. He touched on and gave guidance to projects spanning Linux/netdev,
DPDK, Intel QuickAssist Technology, BSD stacks, OVS, OPNFV, FD.io,
all-things-virtualization (KVM, Xen, VMware, Hyper-V, etc.), ETSI, IETF,
containers, and so many other arenas that my brain can't remember at this dark
moment.

If you knew him and engaged him, especially on deep technical discussions, you
knew you were talking to someone with the rare combination of skills that went
incredibly deep both on the hardware, silicon side of platforms but also on the
software, networking side of the platforms. Rarely did I find a topic that
Venky wasn't well versed on. And by "topic" I mean everything from football to
photography to history to politics and many other subjects well beyond the
technical realm our day jobs find us in. Conversations with Venky were a treat.
Traveling with him was an adventure. Debating with him was a lesson. I will so
miss all of him.

Below are some details on a memorial service this Sunday in Oregon and also a
GoFundMe page. If you're in Oregon or close by please join the service. Venky
left behind a wife, Priya, and two young girls, Adhiti and Namrata. While I'm
sure they are overwhelmed with sadness and grief at the moment they can use our
support. Please consider supporting the GoFundMe memorial fund for his family.

Lastly, my network extends through this distribution list. But Venky's network
was one hundred times broader. Please share this sad news through your own
networks.

Thanks,
Jim

We have an update on the memorial service plans in celebration of Venky
Venkatesan's life.

The service will be held on Sunday, April 8th at our Jones Farm Conference
Center (JFCC) in Hillsboro, OR from 2-4PM, and is open to all who would like to
join.

Venky's family will plan to attend, as well as friends and others who have
worked closely with him over the years. Please note that this is not an
Intel-sponsored event and therefore any travel or expenses related to attending
need to be managed personally.

Many of you have asked about donations, and we have helped setup a GoFundMe

To All,

Aside from his deep contributions to the organization, Venky provided technical

If you could reply to me privately with your:

Ok, I may (or may not) be able to attend due to timing constraints on
me. Feel free to send this mail on to whomever needs it.

First let me point everyone to an excellent series [0] our resident
security director has been writing on protecting code integrity using
PGP. He's (currently) up to 4 parts and it sounds like a 5th (and maybea
6th?) is in the offing. Which, given where the series is coming from is
likely true. The source document is here [1] if you want to read ahead ;)

That series basically goes over the intro to the PGP Web of Trust (WoT)
concepts and how to generate keys, move them to smart card devices (if
you so desire) and how to use them with git. For a more in depth look at
how the WoT actually functions see his much older article series (which
he sadly never finished for reasons) here [2].

With that out of the way I will now assume people have keys and are
ready to do a keysigning :) normally we do these sort of things in
person and there's a major lead time component / pre-documentation step
that is needed. However, virtual signings tend to be a little
moreloose, I know this because we do one anytime we hire a new
member of our systems administration, release engineering, or helpdesk
teams here at The Linux Foundation. The basics for a virtual signing are
as follows:

1) Have your key ready ;)

2) Have your key published to a key server that is part of the overall
keyserver mesh. No, having a key on keybase isn't the best as it doesn't
participate in the mesh. Having your key there is just useful for other
things :D

3) Have a form of valid identification:

a) Two forms of valid identification available (drivers license,
passport basically some method of getting to 100 points according to
this [3] Wikipedia article (yes that's information related to Australia
as they're the ones that came up with this very useful metric). I

the following:

a) State their full name (as on the key being signed)

b) Provide to the camera their forms of identification that in some way
connect said name to said person and the key(s) in question. Give enough
time for participants to look over the material (15 - 30 seconds is
generally enough per article) Be willing to re-display if so asked.

c) They will then _READ_ their entire fingerprint that they have locally
and did not just download

[vpp-dev] VPP/AArch64 - fd.io

2018-01-23 Thread Tina Tsou
Dear Maciek,

As discussed at today’s VPP call, you may want to look into here.

https://wiki.fd.io/view/VPP/AArch64

Build, unit test, packaging

The following is tracked manually until hardware is integrated into upstream
FD.io CI

Cmd Status timing
make bootstrap OK 0m45
make build OK 11m45
make build-release OK 14m56
make test OK 26m7
make test-all KO (kubeproxy) 36m15
make test-debug OK 22m32
make test-all-debug KO (kubeproxy) 33m29

Status on commit: 9cfb11787f24e90ad14697afefbb2dd5969b2951 (Mon Jan 8 01:29:34
2018)

kubeproxy tests are broken on purpose: corresponding features are not fully
implemented

Timing consideration on platform: Hierofalcon with Cortex-A57 & Fedora 26

  * Might want to have a look at this patch which adds make config:
https://gerrit.fd.io/r/#/c/9200/

Distro Cmd Status
Fedora 26 (Server Edition) make pkg-rpmOK
Ubuntu 17.10make pkg-debOK
Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS make pkg-debOK

Re: [vpp-dev] vpp continuous integration on armv8

2017-11-16 Thread Tina Tsou
Dear Ed,

What arrived in Canada yesterday were 3x OD1000 for build only.

3 ThunderX are still in process, waiting to be quoted, billed, and shipped,
they are also for VPP build only.

Gabriel,

We do need to have multiple workers to service the verify queue... having the
queue back up behind a single server wouldn't be good. Do you know if these
boxes are installed with Ubuntu 16.04 already?

Yes, they are.

I estimate it should take about 40 minutes to build and test with 8 cores in
release mode, therefore I do not think that using all 3 ThunderX is necessary.

I do not have access to a ThunderX platform on my side (I ran my tests on NXP
and Hierofalcon platforms), if needed please see with Tina Tsou (in CC) for the
specifics of ThunderX.

I was thinking about duplicating the *vpp-verify-master-ubuntu1604* target as a
first step.

Ubuntu 16.04 is a LTS for armv8 and is one of the distributions already used
for vpp x86 continuous testing.

If all goes well, I was thinking about using fedora-26 (or above) as rhel-based
distribution, since it also has aarch64 official support.

But since it's not one of the distros already used in ci, let's keep it for
later.

Regards,

Gabriel,

This is awesome news!

Do I understand correctly that these ThunderX boards are intended to be used
for build/make test/packaging? If so, I've cced in Vanessa, our fearless
sysadmin to help in figuring these things out :)

Do you have opinions about which Linux distributions you want to package for
(Ubuntu?, Centos?) and versions?

Ed

Hi,

We've been working on preparing vpp for armv8 continuous testing (See
https://wiki.fd.io/view/VPP/AArch64<https://url10.mailanyone.net/v1/?m=1eFMO4-0003qy-3d=57e1b682=-ZITzwi6PGNT2EzKomkJRJ6M-7hD63QeHKT6tMIqMLSnlkmDUD9MfhdhuIw6iWayvj9HXr-SEr3zZlMt-TaTcUZhFRPyigiDDt7sfjQQxA8ESJIAyB06-QLH18FYzLWPwjJl8nmFi7D4ZD-9MfHHGQSEhj7_dqJNULEmezdjyETUcv28RNlzXlyC41ndbFhGIHD4TronLGLM7RL1QTG-dT2eyoBI4hyNrzA8GVmPHHM>),

and we think that we now have everything which is required to add arm as ci
platform in the vpp review process (build, test and packaging). All the test
have been done on "native".

Also 3 thunderX platforms sent by ARM should have arrived yesterday in the fdio
lab.

I *think* that all that is required should be to set the platforms with VMs on
it, and add them as build slaves.

How should we proceed from here ?
