I build the kernel from vanilla sources with oldconfig from

The guest is 32bit. I set uts/machine to i686, but no

with same result (see VSLPAPT3.out) Kernel ist compiled with
 IA32_EMULATION=Y.

[Vserver] Adding IPs without restarting the vserver

2005-07-18 Thread Holger.Manthey
I'm running vservers on SuSE with Kernel 2.6.x and utils 0.30.207

1. How can i add an ip-address to an running vserver without restart?

2. My VServer Master hat 2 Interfaces eth0 and eth1, eth0 for the
vserver and eth1 for backups, with an extra gateway. How can i use this
gateway inside a vserver without adding an ip for each vserver? Normally
all ip-requests has the source ip added by chbind command.

Thanxs in advance

Betreff: [Vserver] VServer utils vlan interface problem

Heyaz,

I am trying to migrate to the new configuration method of util-vserver
(0.30.196) and have come across the following problem:

* vlan support is either broken, or changed in a way I am unable to understand
(very probable as this is my first go at the new configuration method); an
example: I create /etc/vservers/${SVRNAME}/interfaces/0/dev containing
'eth1.4000'.

When I start ${SVRNAME} using vserver ${SVRNAME} start; it gives me the
following output:
ERROR: trying to add VLAN #0 to IF -:eth1 4000:- error: Invalid argument
Cannot find device eth1.4000
SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device
Cannot find device eth1.4000
SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device

On a side note (no pun intended); why moving from a single file configuration
to a configuration tree ? In my opinion this will make things more complicated
than needed: A config file with comments containing examples say a thousand
words and give the user a head start with his first install. The configuration
tree (without examples) will cause for a steep learning curve; it takes time to
find your way around the tree.

If the idea is to put the configuration tree into a database I'm all for it,
but ATM I can't see how the move will simplify things for the average vserver
admin.

Regards,
Dennis

AW: [Vserver] Routing Problem with VServer Kernel

2005-02-17 Thread Holger.Manthey
I found the reason / solution of this problem !

I started the sshd with v_sshd wrapper. The chbind bound the sshd and all
subprocesses to my ipv4root on eth0, so requests via eth1 interface fails. I
configured /etc/ssh/sshd_config to listen only on one address and didn't use
v_sshd, now everything works fine.

Hi,

i have a strange behavior of Kernel 2.6.10-vs1.9.3.17 on SuSE 9.2. The kernel
uses the wrong route/interface (see below). If i reboot the system with
original suse kernel or unpatched vanilla 2.6.10 with same configuration, the
outgoing request uses the right interface eth1.

This is not inside a vserver, the only change i did was applying the
vserver-patch and enabling CONFIG_VSERVER_HARDCPU=y, there are no further
iptable or policy routing defines.

thanks in advance

[Vserver] Limits

2005-02-04 Thread Holger.Manthey
I run VServers on an SuSE 9.2 with Kernel 2.6.10-vs1.9.3.17 and
util-vserver 0.30.196

There're several flags e.g. sched_hard, hide_mount, hide_netif,
virt_mem, virt_uptime etc. to limit vservers. Is there any documentation
for all flags, i only found Thorstens Mini Howto for cpu limits in this
mailinglist.

For the ulimits i need some help. I found a really good documentation at
http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~ensc/util-vserver/doc/conf/configuration
.html
but currently i'm not able to configure ulimits.

Can anyone post a sample, how to configure ulimits (see below) on
startup for the whole vserver?

ulimit -m 262144 -n 512 -u 256

max memory size (kbytes, -m) 262144
open files(-n) 512
max user processes(-u) 256

2005-02-04 Thread Holger.Manthey
Thank you, i got it. I traced the vlimit command. Valid keywords are:
(cpu, fsize, data, stack, core, rss, nproc, nofile, memlock, as, locks)
with a suffix (.soft, .hard, .min)

To set a hardlimit of 256 for the number of processes use:
echo 256 /etc/vservers/vserver-name/rlimits/nproc.hard

To verify the result:

cat /proc/virtual/xid/limit
PROC:1 4 256 0

As that page says, ulimits only apply to 2.4 kernels. For 2.6 kernels use
rlimits instead to limit the whole context. ulimits work 'as usual' within the
context and limit processes.

hmm, interesting ... will try to reproduce, maybe you
could check if the behaviour is different with 2.6.10
vanilla, or maybe this is a vendor patch issue?
