Well, one mistake I made when deciding on a data center was to failing to see if their service is used by spammers. When I signed up with "Neutelligent" in the Tampa Bay are of Florida, USA I didn't check this. At the time our servers were installed, several IP blocks were black listed and our users could not send e-mail to some domains (such as AOL). Fortunately, they had already enacted a policy to get abusers off of their network and after a few months the IP Blocks were removed from the DNSbl. Anytime I consider a host in the future, I'm going to ask what their policy on spammers is and check the dns black lists to see if they're listed. SERVER4YOU.COM has been blacklisted in the past. This means that you should talk to a real person there and find out what their policy is on dealing with spammers, if they have a guarantee that you will be able to send mail (not spam) and what recourse you have if your IP address/block gets black listed. Their entry-level pricing is pretty good, however their prices quickly jump up to be about the same as everyone else's (you can find $99/mo hosting all over). If I were looking for an entry level server and found that they have (and enforce) a good no-spam policy I'd consider them. -- Matthew Nuzum <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> www.followers.net - Makers of "Elite Content Management System" View samples of Elite CMS in action by visiting http://www.followers.net/portfolio/ ___ Vserver mailing list Vserver@list.linux-vserver.org http://list.linux-vserver.org/mailman/listinfo/vserver
Re: [Vserver] vserver hosting on server4you.com
Thanks to everyone who has replied. Does anyone have any reason to believe that the service from the US company, server4you.com would be any different than the service from the German company? And if it matters, I'm looking for a dedicated host, not an individual vserver guest. Thanks again everyone. - Original Message From: Oliver Welter <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>To: vserver@list.linux-vserver.orgSent: Sunday, February 19, 2006 7:55:03 AMSubject: Re: [Vserver] vserver hosting on server4you.com> Stay away from server4free. Stay away from server4free. I've used both their dedicated server and vservers, and the latter product was awful. Service was nonexistent, and I was threatened with a suit when I demanded termination because of sever4free/server4u were defaulting on their part of the contract. I've eventually moved all my business to Hetzner, who so far I've been very happy with (their (naked) rack hosting is very reasonably priced -- 99 EUR/month, with 300 EUR setup fee). I'm also running a flat rodent 10 MBit server at EUserv which is okay but giving me about half of the advertised bandwidth -- suddenly -- which leds me to think they've started to throttle traffic (which they deny they do). > In general the support boards of the german providers are > german-speaking, so you should think twice to host there if you don't > know the language. -- Eugen* Leitl http://leitl.org";>leitl http://leitl.org __ ICBM: 48.07100, 11.36820http://www.ativel.com 8B29F6BE: 099D 78BA 2FD3 B014 B08A 7779 75B0 2443 8B29 F6BE signature.asc Description: Digital signature ___ Vserver mailing list Vserver@list.linux-vserver.org http://list.linux-vserver.org/mailman/listinfo/vserver
