Subject: Isync
Date: Sun, 27 Oct 2002 11:05:03 +0800

Hi all, has anyone got Isync working between two networked Macs? I am
aware you have to have .Mac membership and that you have to have your
.Mac Member name and password in 'System Preferences>Internet'. I
thought my problem was that I had not registered for Isync and Ical as
it suggests you do in 'Ical>register Ical' and the same for Isync. I
tried that and got dumped into a product register which was no help at
all. I then contacted the helpful people at Apple Mt Hawthorn and
they suggested the apple help line which I tried :-( I was told, very
curtly, that they did not need registering. When I tried to politely
point out what it said in the programme I was given the answer "It
does not need registering".

I am obviously missing something and would be grateful for any help.
TIA
Mac

Superdrive Updater

2002-11-02 Thread Reg Whitely

Dear WAMUGgers with Superdrives

I just stumbled across this important update at

It appears your drive might be damaged if you attempt to use the
superdrive with new high speed disks soon to be made available:

"Important information about using high-speed media with your
SuperDrive-equipped Power Mac G4 or iMac."

DVD media Apple is the industry leader in providing affordable and
easy-to-use DVD authoring systems. Although all SuperDrive equipped
Macs are compatible with all currently shipping 1x and 2x DVD-R media,
new higher speed media will become available later this year — it is
important that your SuperDrive be up to date before using this new
media.

Using new high-speed media.
The DVD Forum recently released specifications for new high-speed discs
for DVD recording (4x for DVD-R and 2x for DVD-RW). Media based on this
new specification is expected to be available later this year. All
SuperDrive equipped Macs can easily be updated to be compatible with
this new media. Apple is providing a quick and easy way for customers
to update their SuperDrive before this new media becomes widely
available. This update will be available as an automatic update and as
a manual update for both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.

Why do I need this update?
We recommend that all SuperDrives have this update. Some SuperDrives
may already have it installed (see the section below which explains how
you can check to see if your SuperDrive needs this update). One of our
suppliers, Pioneer Electronics, Inc., has advised that some of its
DVD-R/CD-RW drives (including some Apple SuperDrives) may be unable to
recognize the new high-speed media, and that using this media may
permanently damage the drive. Additionally, this update enables you to
eject discs that do not comply with the CD specification or have
mastering errors.

How do I know if my SuperDrive needs this update?
That’s easy: If you have a 17-inch flat-panel iMac, an eMac with
SuperDrive or a new Power Mac G4 (introduced in August 2002) with
SuperDrive, your system is already compatible with the new media.
Models that do not have a SuperDrive do not need the update. If you
have any other SuperDrive equipped iMac or Power Mac G4, you may need
the update. You can easily verify if you need the update via the Apple
System Profiler application. In Mac OS X, you’ll find the Apple System
Profiler in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder. In Mac
OS 9, you’ll find it in the Apple menu.

To verify if your SuperDrive-equipped Power Mac G4 or iMac needs the
update, click the Devices and Volumes tab of the Apple System Profiler
application, and then click the CD-RW/DVD-R disclosure triangle to see
information about the device. If the Vendor Identification field names
a manufacturer other than Pioneer, you don’t need the update. If the
Vendor Identification field names Pioneer as the vendor, you may need
the update. For drives with the Product Identification DVR-104, no
update is required if the Device Revision number is A227 or higher. For
drives with the product Product Identification DVR-103, no update is
required if the Device Revision number is 1.90 or higher.

CD Drive and RW CDs

2002-11-02 Thread Mervyn & Giuliana Bond

My machine is a PowerMac Performa 6400 running OS 9.0.4.

A RW disc burnt on Toast on an iMac was given to me to read and my
machine could not "see" it, that is, no icon appeared on the Desk
Top. Ordinary read only disks can be seen without any bother.

Any thoughts please?

Merv

explorer favourites

2002-11-02 Thread seymours

Hi guys & Gals,
I am at present transferring files from a G3 B&W to a G3 powerbook. I
have done all that is necessary but I can't figure out how to transfer
my internet favourite sites from explorer, as I don't know where they
are. Both computers are running system 10. 10 .1.5 and 10.2
respectively. Can anyone tell me where they are?

Thanks in advance

G'day, ( first attempt at posting, sorry for any protocol breaches)

had 450 photos in the library and placed in seperate albums with the
albums showing on the left of panel, used to click on Photo Library and
all photos showed in thumb nail, alt click on one of the albums and
showd those particular photos, now when iphotos launch there are no
photos in any of the albums including Photo Library, info at the bottom
of the panel states there are 450 photos in there ! When I go into
Home/Pictures/Iphoto Library I can find the pictures there some say
img-jpg some jpg, if I try to drag them into Photo library I get a
window stating " unreadable files, couldn't be imported( may be
unrecognizeable file type or files not contain valid data "
can anyone please assist in how I can get my photos back, or are they

6100 vram

2002-11-02 Thread Meg Travers
Hi all,

Yes, I have another couple of "project" machines...
I've got a couple of 6100's that I'm trying to make "go" so that I can
give them to computerless friends, but one of them doesn't have any
vram in it :-(

I don't suppose anyone has any just laying about or that they'd take
very little cash for? And if you have any spare ram for these as well...

Give me a shout if so :-)

Cheers,
Meg
