[ADMIN] Testing... Is this thing on?
Hi Everyone, The server took a lot longer to upgrade and rebuild than I had expected. Everything is almost back to normal with the list. The mirror site needs to fill up again, so there are a few things missing on that front. You may not be able to post to the list for a while. The DNS system needs to filter through some of the changes we made. ozmac.com users can now just go straight to https://mail.ozmac.com You don't need to worry about the port number any more. Other than that, thanks for your patience. - Matt

Re: ibook battery problem
Charlton Woolford [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The battery menu has a cross over it and after shutting down, taking the battery out, reinserting it and then restarting the ibook. The battery will still not be recognised. The ibook is 800 Mhz G3 [bought December 02] 640 Mhz of RAM After resetting the power manager [1] - have you had an opportunity to test a known-good battery in it? If you regularly use it unplugged, your battery would be nearing the end of its useful life anyhow, but this test should tell you a bit more. I conclude that USB2 is not backward compatible am I right It is backward compatible in both directions in theory. In practise, some USB controller chipsets don't like some USB device chipsets, especially early USB2 device chipsets. I've had no problems using USB2 devices on 1.1 systems and vice versa, but others do report issues. I'm surprised to hear it won't work on /any/ of your tested systems, though - perhaps the USB2 chipset in the disk enclosure isn't as standards compliant as it could be? Craig Ringer
Cool iiNet usage meter for your menu bar!
Hi All! I noticed this little app on Versiontracker this evening: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/22537 For those of us who use iiNet, this shows how many gigs you have left for the month, or how much you have used. Just sits up in the menu bar. Very cool! Seeya Rod!

Re: ping
ping - Matt Guess this means the server's back! How's Panther Server going Matt? BTW, any chance of having a link to the _new_ list archives added to the wamug home page? I know they're in the email headers, but without being in the archives I can't check what the headers are.. ;) Ry
monitor slows laptop
Can anyone advise on this? I have been using my 333 bronze powerbook (running 9.2.2) with an external 17 Apple monitor and USB keyboard and mouse. It is ideal for me to be able to move from one setup to the other during work ie sometimes directly entering data on the laptop, and typing (letters etc) on the main keyboard and monitor at other times. The computer always runs slower with a monitor attached - particularly Appleworks and others. Every window or screen redraw is slowed and happens TWICE when the monitor is attached, and scrolling down a pulldown window is also much slower. Does anyone know why this happens, and is it likely to be different if I get a different monitor eg flat panel one? Or will I be faced with the same thing again? Thanks - David de la Hunty
