We have been having a couple of issues with finding a treasurer that
can devote the time required to keep track of all of this.

Rest assured though that we are now on track with getting everything
sorted out. Our new members site is almost ready to go live, and you
will be able to check your membership status on there.

If you have paid for a membership, and not received any notification
could I please ask you to wait one more week. After that, we will be in
a position to help you.

I must apologize for the time it has taken on this issue.

I got my first dialup account with iiNet in April 1997, seven years ago now. I
went to ADSL dialup when the plans became viable (ie Telstra made the wholesale
pricing reasonable).

The current iiNet ADSL plans are extremely good, and I've been rapt with it
recently.

However, some of the staff there are completely devoid of a clue.

So, to put it bluntly and ruthlessly, iiNet ADSL is a fantastic product,
delivered by a company that often doesn't have a clue, and has numerous morons
in its employ.

The accounting system that they had a year ago was a complete disaster, but
their current account system gives them flexibility. Which means that they
won't close your account down for the weekend because some idiot there mucked
up your account details (ie been there, done that, still pissed off about it).

Phil

IiNet only seems cheaper. The prices listed on their web pages are all
contingent on choosing their iiPhone product for phone calls. Without
that
it's another $10 a month for all of their plans. Once that's
considered then
the prices are identical for almost all plans. The only exception
being the

Premium 1.5Mb/256 30GB/30GB plan where Westnet beats iiNet by $10.

IiNet's actual prices can be found on the Broadband Choice website at
.

Westnet's Broadband Choice page is at:
just in case you want to
compare the two for yourself.

There's one more gotcha with iiNet that's catching some of the heavier
downloaders out that you should know about. Once you exceed your quota
limit
in either peak or off-peak then your connection is shaped in both
periods.

With Westnet it's only shaped for the period that you've exceeded the
transfer limit. If you're not a heavy downloader then this probably
won't

matter. If you are then this is an important distinction

A Lot depends on just how much download you expect to do !!! ???

Arachnet beats both for some amounts of use, equal in others. And
don't forget the free WAIX traffic ! ?

This is often to get full featured operation, eg interrupt sharing that
works, power management, wake-on-pci, etc. AFAIK PCI 2.1 and 2.2 are
compatible in almost all ways.

So ... depending on what device it is, it should (but there's no way to
be sure) be safe to use it in an older bus. I use brand new PCI 2.2 NICs
in the PCI buses of _very_ old hardware, ie Pentium 100 machines (from
when PCI was still pretty new) and have no problems.

I wanted to use it with some "stop-motion" single frame recording software, but

There are many others that allow pass through during connection with computer.

Re: Mac " Bus " version

2004-04-05 Thread Mark Secker

that depends on the mac in use...

actually it's probably unlikely that any relatively recent Mac (G3 or
better) would be using a PCI bus design of 2.1 or lower... 2.2 was,
off the top of my head, formalised in 1997 and had been used for
quite a while before that by most manufacturers.
Without doing a search of the Apple tech archive I would guess all
PowerPC G3 or higher are PCI 2.2 or higher.

I can't say for legacy systems (older than G3) but from personal
experience I have fitted numerous PCI 2.2 devices (USB, video
capture and video cards) in pre G3 PowerMacs (7200, 7300 etc)
without problems, many of these cards were transferred to G3 and G4
machines when the users upgraded without any technical issues.

Good Morning Everyone,

Specifications for PCI cards often quote the " Bus " version as a requirement.
such as " Compliant 32 Bit PCI bus version 2.2 "

Can anybody say how I can find this information for the Mac in use ?

TIA

Bob

Problem with mail

2004-04-05 Thread Peter Hinchliffe
A client has a problem with Apple Mail on one of her computers.
Computer is 15" flat screen iMac running Panther. Networked to eMac,
also running Panther, and using ADSL for Internet access.

Both computers access the same email account, but recently the iMac has
begun to quit unexpectedly after a partial download of email. The
mailboxes on this computer together contain over 6,500 messages, and I
suspect this might have something to do with it. The eMac is behaving
properly.
