Anybody with an iPod ?
Methodshop, which offers iPod tech support and repairs, cites several stories in its warning about a surprisingly common iPod toilet trap: Wow, the toilet dropping appears to be a common problem! I hope the toilet was full of clean water. Always wait until the iPod is completely dry before plugging it in, or using it. Water and electricty don't mix. It might work fine after it dries out. Cross your fingers. If you are having issues like the Folder icon or Sad Face, you should probably try to erase and restore it. That might work if the hard drive just got a little whacked. However, you may need to replace a few parts inside depending on what exactly happened.
new iPods
So now that the new 4th gen iPods have been released: http://www.apple.com/ipod/ and http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebObjects/australiastore.woa/80305/wo/N04kb ELpsm483oD6q081UHTdMdz/0.0.7.1.0.6.13.0.1.1.3.0.7.4.1.1.0 Any ideas on when they will be available here? I note that the difference in US/AUD prices between the new ipods is proportionately larger than for the mini iPods - I wonder, could this be because the minis are only just available in Australia but have been selling for while in the US? Imperial iPods...
Looks like someone hasn't (hopefully) yet metricised the iPod Mini Apple Store web page http://store.apple.com/133-622/WebObjects/australiastore.woa/80605/wo/yj3yXlBYAWti2EZ1EwD1mz3yTuN/0.0.7.1.0.6.21.1.3.1.1.0.0.1.0 Or perhaps Australia returning to imperial is part of the Free Trade Agreement :) Have fun, Shay -- === Shay Telfer Perth, Western Australia Technomancer Join Team Sungroper in the Opinions for hire [POQ] 2005 World Solar Challenge [EMAIL PROTECTED] fnord http://sungroper.asn.au/
Re: Ti powerbook cd drive problem
John The CD may be one of the copy protected audio CDs. This has happened to me with one of these but my drive still reads everything else. Try a data CD if you're trying an audio CD, or vice versa. If you're trying CD-R or CD-RW media try a commercially produced disk, and vice versa. Try that CD in another drive. See if an external USB/FireWire CD drive (if you can get access to one works with the disk (perhaps MacOS has gone nuts, rather than the drive). -- Craig Ringer -- The WA Macintosh User Group Mailing List -- Archives - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/archives.shtml Guidelines - http://www.wamug.org.au/mailinglist/guidelines.shtml Unsubscribe - mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] WAMUG is powered by Stalker CommuniGatePro
RE: Ti powerbook cd drive problem
I believe that CD and DVD work use different wavelengths - dvd using a shorter wavelength to help get the higher capacity. To implement this dual lasers are probably being used. So perhaps the CD laser has died, but the DVD laser is still working fine?
