Oh what great excitement ... 8000k Adsl ?? that's 8MB just
about enough

to run Video . so they say ?

I would suggest there are a lot of issues to be resolved before this performs
like we would like it to .
The chances of getting a copper circuit that would handle that speed
are small if they exist at all .

If it's to work a whole new approach will need to be taken ...
Optic fibre perhaps .
but why should Telstra or anybody else rush out and instal this
while the ACCC are

price fixing the returns .

Well, you could hope that the government sells off what's left of
Telstra but keeps the copper and exchanges and then charges all the
Telcos to run services over the government infrastructure. It seems
to work for roads...

As to whether we'll see that happen...

Have fun,
Shay

Already we see that private enterprise does not want to expend much on
any Dslams

at exchanges .
it's much less risky to just let Telstra be the bunny and then complain
like mad

as though they are charging too much.

So by the time this gets OFF THE GROUND a whole new lot of Modems
and connect boxes are likely to be on the market with a lot of new
technolgy .

Unless you have to change , or have money burning a hole in your pocket
I suggest you wait for at least 12 months
and 2 years would be an even better time line.

You have to remember that these speeds are limited by the ability of

I know I'm very close to the exchange in my area so my speeds should
be relatively high.
I'm getting 2000k on iinet's 8000k plan so there is no way ADSL2+ is
going to have any benefit to me.

I'd hate to imagine what I'd get up here in Mt Tarcoola. At one stage
I could only get 32k on a 56k connection with a v90 modem. Seems ants
are rife here and had eaten through the lines. adsl2 ants maybe would
be tougher? I guess by the time adsl2+ is available the modem will be
obsolete but as this is the first time on broadband, and with adsl2
imminent in my understanding, I'd rather get the latest equipment and
know it wasn't the weakest link.

I would appreciate any light shed on this topic.

I've been doing some research for modem.routers that will support
coming adsl2 and 2+

I'm not sure if this is of any help but here goes anyway.

Here's a link for your device. I believe the 824M is not upgradeable I
but the DG834 (v2) is.

You may already have looked here

There is a downloadable .pdf of specs there too.

These are interesting too:

Here are 4 that are compatible, as posted to this list several days
ago. I'm going to try the Billion:

ADSL, ADSL2 and ADSL2+ (Incl) Compatible Modem/Routers
Billion 7402 2 yr warranty ADSL speed 8mbps to 30 with ADSL2+
$190-250

Netgear DG834 (v2) 1 yr warranty don't know speeds$130 - $190
DLink 504T May not be here yet but is ADSL2 and 2+ compatible 8mbps
with adsl other unknown

Zyxel Prestige 660H ADSL2 speed 12, ADSL2+ speed 24
Other
Netcomm NB 5 looks good but is only usb and single ethernet. Perhaps
others are on their way.

Hope that is of use.

keeping photo titles from iphoto in iDVD slide show

2005-03-02 Thread Rob Findlay
Does anyone know if this is possible? I notice that when you create a
DVD from iphoto you lose the titles of the photos.
