Use an ethernet cable to network them and copy everything over from
your iTunes music library folder.

Greetings,

I would like to move my iTunes library over to a PC laptop which I can
then

leave next to the stereo. Is it possible to just do a straight copy?

Thanks,

Andrew

Yep.

Method A:
Just locate the folder containing the music, iTunes' advanced
preferences will reveal this location.
Make sure you have a network connection from the Mac to the PC, I don't
recommend going from the PC to the Mac, could be much slower with a risk
of timeouts.
Then a straight copy of the required files or folders to the PC's music
folder.
This is usually located somewhere like "~\My Documents\My
Music\iTunes\iTunes Music".

Method B:
For copying specific songs over you can first make up a playlist with
your Mac iTunes, then select all and drag and drop them into the PC, or
any other open window for that matter including your desktop.
This method can fail sometimes if copying to a PC and there are
"illegal" characters in the filenames, I think. Not as surefire as Method A.

After:
Once copied over you simply drag and drop all those new files or folders
into the PC's iTunes window to add them to it's library.
If confused at this point with duplicate entries etc, I remove everthing
from within iTunes (while saying no to having them go to the trash of
course) then re-add everything with a drag and drop.

Have fun
Paul

Tara finally received her new computer. She is so pleased with it she
has forgotten about switching back to Windows. She is thrilled with the
ease of things and how much fun it is to use, and how good things look.

Another day and it would have been all over I think. All's well that
ends well ...

A big thanks to everyone who offered advice.
Bottom line is:

A minimum bandwidth increase from 512 to 1500.
A few changes with iPhone - must have all included ie local calls ( 18 c v
20c) as well as line rental (about $3 per month more), quota reduced from 12
mb to 10 mb )won't affect me).

Existing router/modem is ok.

Make sure you ask:
1. Is my exchange DSLAM enabled?
2. Are there are ports available at that exchange?
3. Is there is no physical barrier to me using those ports at that exchange?
4. Will there be any delay (Telstra or otherwise) in getting me switched

Following is copy of correspondence with support desk at westnet.
Westnet used to support macs. They no longer even have a mac running
in their operations centre.

Hi Nancy,

Yes - in fact I can't find another page anywhere in my history where
this happens.

Do you have the correct plug-ins for macromedia flash?

Yes - 7.0 r24

As "MyPlace" requires these to be viewed properly. You can also try
making your cache size larger so the page is loaded from the computer
first and then from the internet.
Are you aware that cache size is not a user setting in Safari?
Interestingly, once Firefox's cache gets near its limit, the processor
load drops right off.
It is well known that Flash processing is processor intensive for OS X
although the latest release is much improved. Even so, this kind of
load is very unusual.

This should lower the CPU usage as
well. If the problem continues please don't hesitate to let us know.

So I am letting you know that the problem continues. I go to quite a
few media sites which have flash ads around the same size as yours and
not even near the cpu load.

I've reset my homepage for the meantime.

thanks for your prompt response,

Nancy M

Copy ends

Thanks to all wamuggers who responded. It made my footing much firmer
in my correspondence with westnet. They needed telling. Their
member photo site is basically inaccessible in Safari and even in
Firefox it ain't much chop.

Hi Andrew
My laptop and Mac don't talk to each other, yet, and I had an iPod
before the Mac. I used CD's and burn't the whole library to transfer
the AAC files. 12 in all. Now I could use a couple of DVD's to transfer
the other way. iTunes will manage it for you, just keep feeding them
in. I'm sure there's probably a better way, but you also get a back up
of the Library at the same time.
I just checked it for my current library (30gig) but had to create a
playlist to get the Burn icon instead of Browse. Don't do this all at
once or you might cause the beechball to spin forever. You could do it
by artist or something like that.

Good luck.
Andrew

AddressBook.app query

Sometimes when I open the application Address Book.app Little Snitch
gives me this message "Address Book wants to connect to

As I don't have an active .Mac account or a home page there why does
Address Book want to do this and what is it telling Apple?

Yep... I've heard of problems with that site from users on old PCs and
Linux systems too. Too much flash, updating too fast. WestNet's old site
was great, this new one is awful to navigate and brings older systems to
their knees.

I have no problems with it here (2.2GHz Athlon running Linux) but on the
eMac at work and my old-ish laptop it just stops the browser cold.

Your experience is a lot different to the others.
If you have time, could you say which Flash version you have as a
plug-in?

thanks so much for taking the time so far,

Howdy,

Can any reader confirm the near 100 percent cpu activity when viewing
this page:

in any or all of Safari, Firefox and Camino? I note that turning off
the big flash phone ad reduces the cpu activity by around 40 percent.

If the deal goes through, it will carry the Adobe brand. (EEKS)

Hmm... will it carry the Macromedia or the Adobe moniker, I wonder.
